No Whitaker is far more well rounded and was handling Romero takedowns with ease.Considering his leg was ****ed for 4 rounds he beat him easily 4 rounds to 1 not sure how Romero got the 1st.Whitakers backs to back wins over Jacare and Romero To go along with that win streak make him number 1 .Rockhold having not fought since his embarrassing loss to Bisping isn't in the discussion although I look forward to a Whitaker v Rockhold fight if he comes back am a fan of his ,would be a stand up war Rockhold is a big Middleweight.

Last round for Werdum could have been 10-8 draw would have been fair.

This sport is just getting insane when some random guy like Whitaker from a wrestling wasteland like Australia/New Zealand can develop take down defense to frustrate and essentially ward of a guy with international elite level wrestling.

Obviously the shots and set ups are more difficult when defending strikes is at play but still very impressive how Whitaker neutralized so much of that.

Was he the same bully who forced Jeff Horn to take up boxing and become a world champion?

Whitaker was a big mouth bully on the rugby league field? Seems odd considering he always been pretty respectful from what ive seen and heard lucky your mate was there to clean him up , I bet your mate wont stop talking bout it now Whitaker is a champion lol

Having rewatched it. Romero clearly took the first two rounds. By the start of the third his tank was on fumes already though. Whitaker didn't make adjustments so much as Romero's bad cardio allowed Whitaker to start landing things that the gassed Romero could no longer avoid. He didn't even have the energy to keep attacking Whitaker's tenderized leg. Whitaker took the next two rounds, and in the fifth, Whitaker was running on empty as well, and Romero seemed to be edging the round of tired, wild striking, until he slipped and fell, and didn't even have the energy to try and scramble back to his feet before he was pounced on. That's what sealed the fight for Whitaker.

Talented guys with two round gas tanks are really frustrating to watch.

Upon rewatching Overeem/Werdum there's no way Overeem deserved to have his hand raised... Best case scenario for him is a draw. 1st was close and could have gone either way, 2nd was a clear Overeem round and the 3rd was a textbook example of a 10-8 round - thus making it impossible to give Overeem the fight unless you're either blind or dumb. Either a Draw or 29-27 Werdum are fair scores. There's no way Overeem should move up the rankings or become #1 contender again after a disgraceful performance like that....

That's interesting, I missed about half of round 3 so I'll have to give it another look myself. I gave Overeem the first 2 round but like you said round 1 could have gone either way. It sucks for Werdum who was jobbed in their 2nd fight imo.

I was absolutely hammered and talking with someone while watching and scoring it... Fight night I scored it 29-28 Overeem, but it completely flew over my head how one sided round 3 was... There's no way that wasn't a 10-8 and thus no way Overeem won it. Only round 3 needs to be rewatched to determine that this was a massive robbery and a gift to Overeem.
