I can understand why it was 10-9 as Werdum didn't g&p with intent, but I personally would have given 10-8.

I agree theres no way to class Overeem as the next best HW in the world after being outstruck by Werdum.

One things for sure... Regardless of the official tally I don't consider Overeem to be the better man in their trilogy, nor do I consider him to be the better HW overall.

Who do you reckon would be favourite in a 4th fight?

Clearly Werdum. Even more so if it were a 5 round headliner. Overeem had ZERO chance of winning that if it was a 5 round fight.

It's annoying how there's no set criteria for a 10-8 round, or is that just in Nevada?

Anywhere else a knockdown a takedown and a clearly won round would be enough for 10-8.

People still debate whether Henderson deserved 10-8 against Bisping and those punches aside he clearly lost the rounds.

Not just that UFC adapts it's rules to make fights more fan friendly, a greater emphasis on knockdowns would help do that.

I liked the fact that knockdowns, for the longest time didn't equate to an automatic 10-8 round. Lately with the new rules they've been giving out 10-8 rounds a lot more liberally, but the new rules aren't in effect in Nevada yet, but a lot of judges in the past still would have scored that a 10-8... As it was one sided for pretty much the entire duration and Overeem spent the last two minutes or so hurt doing next to nothing, and at one point was on the verge of being finished.

I think in a 3 round fight if two rounds are shaded and the other is clearly as day then a 10-9 system doesn't really work.

Atleast in boxing if someone shades 7 rounds you can say they've neutralised the opponent of enforced their game plan, 2 rounds is too short to do that.

I mean how can the first and third be given the same credit in this fight. Round 1 was won by the virtue of a clean right being favoured over several jabs. Round 3 was win by a knockdown, a takedown and octagon control.

In any other state this fight is a draw at worst for Werdum and maybe a win if he gets the first due to quantity over quality.

Overeem had a shocking fight plan which was sit back, counter and land more shots without pressing or causing any real damage. Yes Werdum is probably the most dangerous fighter on his back in history but JDS managed to chin him.

Overeem didn't win because he was the better fighter, he win because in Nevada one extra punch is equivalent to a knockdown.

Moving forward I'd like to see JDS Vs Werdum in a rematch.

Overeem probably should have an eliminator with Struve imo.

I'm honestly not even sure if JDS has anything left at this point, completely war torn and while still probably better than most of the division it's hard to see him competing with anyone in the top 5... Miocic, Werdum, Overeem, Velasquez and oddly enough MAYBE even Hunt bizzarly have too much for him(bizarre but it's possible that the wars have had less of an effect on Hunt than they have JDS)

    Is Velasquez ever coming back?

Hunt Vs JDS would be a great scrap.

I think Struve is on a winning streak ATM and has a win over Miocic so he could be in line for a big fight.

Mir has left now and it's hard to know how much he had left if anything but he can submit anyone at any point given the chance, like Werdum.

Now that the dust has settled I don't feel nearly as bad about this result.

I mean Werdum Vs JDS 2 and Reem Vs Miocic 2 are both good fights.

It will probably result in Miocic Vs Werdum 2 which is the best two HW men in the world.

I hope Hunt gets a look in but I'm not sure who he can be favoured against that will earn him a title shot. Struve has the win over Miocic but not a high ranking. Mir has left UFC now and Hunt isn't beating any of the top 4.

I'm assuming Cain is long gone now.

In fact it isn't beyond possibility that Cormier loses to Jones and becomes HW champ now that Cain has gone.

Overeem getting the nod still irks me... At this point though, neither Overeem or Werdum vs. Miocic II excites me but they'll have to suffice. Hunt remains a dark horse who you can't really completely count out. I'd say he has a punchers chance against Overeem and Werdum still(and a good one at that) and he just might be fresher than the war torn and now gun shy JDS, a rematch between the two would be interesting. Cain will almost certainly be back at some point... The performance he turned in against Browne still proved that he is without a doubt a top 5 HW, it's just about getting medically cleared to fight. JDS/N'Gannou is on for UFC 215... To me it's pretty clear that the UFC are banking on an N'Gannou win so that there can be some new blood in the top 5, this fight could be pivotal in the next 2-3 years of the division. If N'Gannou wins he'll probably be instantly rewarded another shot. If JDS wins? Nothing happens and he goes back in line behind Overeem, Werdum and waits for another crack at Miocic. Then there's Struve/Volkov headlining a card in September... Winner will probably crack the top 10... Then there's Curtis Blaydes, Marcin Tybura, 40 year old Oleksiy Oliynyk and Andrei Arlovski hovering outside in the top 15.

    Ngannou definitely makes things interesting.

I think Struve will get an inflated ranking providing he keeps winning due to his success against Miocic.

If Cain comes back and say beats Miocic and then defends against Werdum he's suddenly goat material again lol.

I agree they still needs sum changes overall with the scoring especially there criteria for 10-8 rounds, I couldn't believe there was a 10-8 scored in that fight even tho Werdum did win the round easily. I hate how the takedown seems to be scored more favourable then a knockdown,to often you see a guy score 1 takedown and basically do nothing with it and somehow that seems to be enough to win the round and negate all the work done on the feet. Obviously its different if they do something with it like GNP and submissions attempts which should be scored highly or maybe a close round with no action standing where 1 takedown maybe enough. It will never happen but if they brought in sum of the the old pride rules such as the yellow cards for stalling UFC/MMA would be a lot better.

If Cain loses to Miocic or gets injured again and cant come back I would love to see Cormier go back up to Heavyweight, Im not a fan of his style and hope Jones beats him but hes clearly 1 of the best P4P and I think he and Jones could beat most of the top 10 Heavys.
