Ruiz possessed greatness while Botha possessed mere very goodness. Francois was a spectacular specimen and still holds the Transvaal high hurdles record. He may simply out-athlete Ruiz.

But in the end don't bet against greatness.

    The Tua/Ruiz fight was exciting.

Prime Holyfield would have walked through Ruiz.

It was sad watching a Holyfield who could no longer pull the trigger struggle mightily with Ruiz. And boring.

I guess George was being contrary, maybe to earn his salary.

Holy was shot? LOL! He was always described that way whenever he fought Ruiz. Then of course, immediately after fighting Ruiz he was immediately reclassified as a very serious capable and the best contender to challenge other belt holders.

In any case, the facts on record prove that you are talking rubbish. You see, Holyfield fought Ruiz for the first time only three years after beating Tyson and only one year after losing to Lennox Louis.

    Unable to pull the trigger?

    LOL!

Once more the facts prove you speak drivel. A year after his last fight with Ruiz he beat Hasim Rahman. A year later he TKOD Jeremy Bates and a year after Bates he TKO Vinny Maddalone. Then three years later he KOD
Botha. He also went on to beat Lou Savarez and Fres Oquendo after his last fight with Ruiz. He also TKOD Brien Nielson in 2011.

So obviously his power was still there. Based on those facts I am forced to reject your evaluation of Evander during his fight6 with Ruiz as mere baseless personal opinion. in other words, if your hero was struggling mightily it wasn't because he was totally shot as you choose to imagine in order to avoid admitting that he was outboxed. It was simply because he was outboxed. Live with it.

George was being contrary to earn his money? You know, you are giving me the impression that you are on this website to troll. So after this post I will put you on my ignore list.

George was being honest. In fact he was being paid to be honest and his religious background provided him with a reason to be honest.

Furthermore, they were including him indirectly in their attack by denigrating the WBA title as bogus because Ruiz held it. George himself had been a WBA title holder and took umbrage with their attack as well as their hypocrisy in promoting a fight and then telling the fans that the title was bogus. So you are obviously totally unfamiliar with the details or else attempting to get a rise.

    BTW

You found Tua knocking out Ruiz exciting but don't find Ruiz knocking out that long list of fighters on his record exciting? Someone said that about Joe Louis getting knocked out by Marciano you would be suspecting racism. Same thing with Shmelling or Cooney getting knocked out. You would pull the racist card.

Or maybe not since trolling is a reward unto itself isn't it?

LOL with the highlighted race related drivel.

Race has nothing to do with my negative assesment of Ruiz.

Rahman was declining fast when Holyfield beat him.

A badly faded Evander did actually beat Ruiz the first time.

Yes, Prime Holyfield would walk through Ruiz.

    Holyfield is not "my hero."

Yes, Ruiz's only highlight reel moment is being kod as if shot against Tua.

Ruiz was a very limited fighter who would never have been a champion without Don Kings careful matchmaking during an era of splintered HW division.

And, please change the avatar of that Australian imbred monster. I want to puke each time I have to look at it.

Exactly. In virtually any fight Ruiz had above the tomato-can level he either lost or cheated - blatantly violating rules against excessive holding, or faking "low blows" to avoid being counted out against Thunder and Holyfield (II) and to get an unjustified DQ "win" against Johnson.

If the rules are enforced against Ruiz, and he's forced to fight WITHIN the rules, he loses every time. As he would against Botha.

Pretty even matchup. I give Ruiz the edge, he is the better technician of the two.

And even then(why I made this thread) Botha was a master of smothering tactics himself, although there was a lot more finesse, elegance and honor in that way White Buffalo did it compared to Ruiz. So even if Ruiz showed up with his usual crap, Botha beats him at his own game.

Agreed. Botha was a step above Ruiz - to the extent he used holding tactics, he used them as a supplement to actual boxing skills, rather than as a replacement for the lack of them, as Ruiz did.

This matchup is pretty even. I think that Botha is maybe more physical with more heart. I'd lean towards him but it wouldn't be a pretty fight at all.
