It is well understood that relatively small differences in weight make a difference at lower weight divisions. Those same differences are not a major benefit at hwt. A Weight advantage is an "easy" factor to understand but it's only a factor at hwt. More importantly and more difficult to ascertain is SKILL as boxing is a high skill sport and along with it speed as well as conditioning.
Does anyone honestly believe that Joe Frazier would lose to the likes of Wilder, Hammer, Breazeale, Pulev, Browne, Ortiz, Povektin, Parker or Martin??? Frazier at 205 lbs would be a wrecking ball today. The heavyweights today just suck compared to those of the past.
There's a saying in the fighting game for animals which is apt for humans. An ounce advantage for a fighting **** is the equivalent of a pound to a dog, a pound advantage for a dog is the equivalent of a stone to a man...... .
Every time I sell Frazier short I watch him in his prime. He exhibited the desire, relentlessness, and killer instinct that is missing from most all hwts the past 20 years or so. Add Joes speed and his inside game he would be a very tough opponent for anyone aside from a select few.
You make yourself look bad when you refer to experienced, undefeated contenders and former beltholders as "bums." Total Perry move.
They don't fight the best in the division. They're bums. They gas halfway through a 12 rdr. They're bums.
he would cut them up in half time, each. Probably beat 2 of them in one night. No waiting for them to gass before moving in for a safe kill. He'd go at them from the first bell. They would be petrified of being there with Joe.
This is true. Sometimes in these discussions people say "how come no 180 pounder has defeated a top 230 pounder in recent years then ?" ...... as if proof that it would be impossible for a modern heavyweight to lose to a small guy. When in fact, the reason is the game's not as barbaric as it used to be, 180 pounders have different options, different advice, a different audience.
The issue is that very very inexperienced posters want to loft inexperienced hwts who have not come close to proving themselves to Joe Frazier status. Nothing could be more ridiculous. Yes in comparison to those hwt champions who have proved themselves said fighters are bums.
