Joe Joyce turns pro and signs up with Hayemaker Ringstar. Also joined by Qais Ashfaq, Michael 'Venom' Page and Willy Hutchinson. Fights to be televised by Dave
there's so many different channels for boxing its great in one way for fans but there is going to be clashes most weekends with sky showing 20 shows, boxnation/bt 20-30, itv 5, channel 5 dunno how many and now 5 on dave plus international fights and wbss every weekend in september and october
Did sorta expect this tbh, thought Joyce would end up with Ringstar since Matchroom have Joshua and Whyte and Boxnation are building up Dubois. I've said before though I don't rate Joyce's skills and think he'd be outpointed when he steps up quite comfortably but he seems like a nice guy, never complained about his Olympic loss either. Hope he does well. Any idea who is training him?
Seen Joyce camp offered Dave Allen the fight as Joyce first opponent over 10 rounds. Bold first offer, Allen is no world beater but would be a good level opponent for first fight.
hes 31 so he needs to move quite quick and allen would have been a real good first fight. Can't see allen ever taking it because if he lost (which i think he would) the how do you come back from losing to a debutante? you don't.
Indeed just seen Allen has declined fight. First time Allen has made a boxing decision with his head and not his heart. Maybe they can get a Lewison or a Cornish to take fight
Can't see JJ getting more than some European title shot at a push. Never came across as top drawer to me. Even then Haye will have to push him some. If the TV deal is for 5 fights a year it is a safe bet that JJ won't be fighting more anually, Will be 34 by the time he has just had 10 fights. Too late.
Like most, I'm not convinced Joe Joyce has a high ceiling but he's a classy guy and his style will make for exciting fights, so hopefully he does well.
