Rd 3 was close for Mayweather.. A bit of a dull rd. Rd 4 was a very good rd with Mayweather winning. Canelo didnt do bad at all, Mayweather just landed more consistently through the rd.
Rd 5 was a the clearest rd so far with Canelo besting Floyd all three minutes. Floyd tried to do something the last 30 seconds but Canelo had already won 2:30 of the rd.
Rd 7 close for Mayweather Rd 8 very good rd for both Canelo again a bit winded at the end allowed Floyd to close better and take the rd the last 30 seconds. 5 rds to 3 for Floyd
Rd 10 was another very close rd. Seemed like Floyd landed his jab effectively through out the last 2 min, Canelo landed the harder punches through out the rd. Toss up rd. Will give to Canelo. 5-5
Thats what I thought the first time. But if you consider how young Canelo was to be at that big of a stage against the best P4P fighter, you can appreciate what Canelo did against Floyd. You can clearly see Canelo is also a much better fighter today.
Rd 11 was another very close rd again. Canelo again with the harder punches and a nice 3 punch combo. Floyd was a bit more consistent. Toss up rd. Will give to Floyd.
Rd 12 Story of the fight.. Another close rd, Canelo pressing the action and landing the harder punches again, Floyd mostly evading. Canelo rd. Have it a draw. I can see how someone can give it too Floyd, there were a lot of close rds, and an argument can be made having Canelo as winner. Interesting fight. Better than I remember it.
Round 1 I scored for Floyd 10-9. The reason is because Floyd I thought landed the cleaner punches, which were a number of jabs that got through Canelo's guard. Canelo didn't land really any clean punches in Round 1, besides those jabs to the body. What Canelo did do well was he did block some of Floyd's jabs very nicely, Canelo actually parried a Floyd jab impressively. Canelo landed a lot of glancing punches in this round. Floyd outlanded him in clean punching by a few jabs in this round. Floyd came out and established the range finding jab and landed it enough through the guard for him to win the round. Canelo landed a number of jabs to the body in the round, Floyd blocked a couple. Basically round 1 was a jabbing contest, Canelo landed more jabs to the body, Floyd landed more jabs through the guard and Floyd's jabs through the guard were more significant in my view than the slight advantage of Canelo jabs to the body. One thing I did was I counted the number of feints in the bout and I recorded if they were successful. By my count, in Round 1, Canelo feinted Floyd a total of 9 times got Floyd to react each time. This is a very significantly statistic here, though I don't necesarily use feints to score rounds, it is something to keep an eye on round after round. As we all know, successful feints are done by expert boxers typically on inexperienced boxers, so for Floyd to bite on so many feints from Canelo indicates that Canelo was able to assert a good amount of ring generalship.
