That's assuming that Jeffries didn't hit as hard as Foreman.

Jeffries was as strong as Foreman.

I don't think that he hit as hard, but it is not out of the question!

As strong physically as Jeff was I don't see him punching as hard as a prime foreman. And apart from George, there's only a couple of heavy s that I see dropping Joe time and time again till the ref stops it. Jeffries isn't one imo.

Why don't you consider it possible for Jeffries to have hit as hard or harder than Foreman?

I guess the counterargument to that would be thus:

"OK, lets say that he hit as hard as Foreman. He obviously want the finisher that Foreman was, so it is sort of academic".

Jeffries wasn't considered to be as big a puncher as Fitz in his own time, and he certainly was not as clinical a finisher.

The $$$$ was in defending against white challengers ,that's why the White Hope Era began in the first place ! Johnson got $31,500 +a % of the film rights for defending against Fireman Jim Flynn, a man he had already stopped! Jack couldn't get that fighting Langford,Jeannette or McVey. Johnson's price for a title defence was$30,000 and he barred no one,if racist America wanted the challenger to be a white man instead of the more dangerous 3 black challengers whose fault was that?
ps Jeffries wasn't always the one who initiated the action, in the 2nd Sharkey fight he waited for the Sailor to attack and countered him .

To be fair, some common opponents said that he hit harder than Fitz, and the punch test backs this up.

Does their KO percentage record comparison indicate that he wasn't as much of a finisher as Foreman?

No, but I would make that assessment based on how they put their best opponents away.

To be fair Fitz pulverized Sharkey twice in their two fights which lasted less than a total of 10 rounds.
Sharkey went the distance with Jeffries twice, for a total of 45rds!

Fitz half killed Gus Ruhlin who had to sleep on a makeshift cot in MSG because he was too badly beaten to travel , he had a doctor in attendance overnight in case he died, Ruhlin lapsed in and out of consciousness for 24 hours, with blood coming out of his mouth ,nose, and ears.
He then spent a week at his managers home convalescing.
Ruhlin was retired on his stool , fully conscious against Jeffries a year later.
Punch tests are a load of sh*t a couple of week as ago Anthony Joshua was on a chat show hitting a bag along with celebs, there were some surprising results.
Jeffries never had the punch placement or timing of Fitz , bags don't move! Sharkey,Corbett ,Jeffries,Johnson. All said Choynski hit them the hardest and Corbett ,Johnson, and Sharkey said Fitz hit them the second hardest.

Do you think Corbett goes 23rds with Foreman, a near 40 years old Fitz goes 8rds?
How many rounds do you think 185lbs Sharkey goes with George?
Don't misunderstand me, Jeffries could hit and he had a chin of concrete, imo, but he never had to face a volume puncher like Frazier, or one who bobbed and crouched as he came in
,Sharkey wasn't hard to tag yet he weathered the storm in two fights..
It 's entirely possible Jeff gets his left hook on to Joe's chin before Frazier can get going and pounds him into a stoppage. The question is,is it likely?
Jeff had better punch resistance than Frazier,in fact I'd say he probably had better punch resistance than most heavyweights, before or since, he walked through the punches of Fitz, punches that badly disfigured and ripped open his face, punches that had ruined Sharkey and Ruhlin, yet they could not drop or even discourage him. I repeat ,the referee might be the most single important factor here.

I'll go with the more modern fighter, Jeffries.
