But Jonny ...it was the same story when he boxed at 160. He hit spike, Chudinov, and poor Nick Blackwell with everything but the corner stool and couldn't floor them. Spike is only a small light middleweight at that.
The problem is, he's only faced one decent world class boxer in BJS, who I thought would go far, but isn't as good as I thought he'd be. He got out-boxed easily in that fight, although it was closer then it should of been due to BJS conditioning (like most of BJS competitive fights), he still got out-boxed. I get it was his first 12 round fight also, but doesn't affect his boxing ability. This is going to be the issue against any real world-class, top-tier operator. Which everyone seems to be papering over, everyone mentions his engine and stamina and volume. They won't win you fights against a top-class fighter. How's he going to do when he's getting hit with big powerful shots, from someone like Groves for example? He won't be able to do what he does currently, like he could against Abraham for example. He'll get slowed down a lot by eating big shots, I don't care how good someone's chin is, eating shot's takes a lot out of you. It nearly always follows the same pattern, world-class boxer, beats puncher / pressure fighter. He's a good fighter, over-rated for sure by many people on here. Personally I think he'll drop down to Middleweight if he can, thus not entering the super-middleweight tournament.
Vey good post kojok...but: I don't see people that ARE over rating him. Have you got any examples? It's quite correct to mention his exceptional athleticism, punch rate etc...that's just fair comment. No one is saying that volume DOES beat quality, not usually anyway, at least not in the posts I'm reading. Giving credit where it's due is NOT overrating. People are simply acknowledging what he does well, that's all.
His father did say in a interview that the extra padding was affecting his power, i thought he was just talking his usual nonsense but he may have a point. Personally I would rather knock people out and get the frozen peas on my hands.
I don't see him holding up against the big and more rangy super middleweights. He looked a bit shaky whenever abraham had rare success. At 160 GGG would probably wreck him due to his open style but he'd most likely beat bjs if they met again.
I don't think AA rattled him much. At one point AA landed 3 hard shots, CEJ backed off for a moment. No big deal. AA is a very heavy puncher. Who wouldn't react to 3 flush shots from such a puncher?
Ah, this explains it. Daft question but is there any kind of surgery that can rectify it? I admit I know absolutely nothing about it. He'd be incredibly dangerous with power and his fights would be a lot shorter.
Not seen fight yet as just back from holiday but pretty impressive nights work for eubank considering he was moving up in weight against a seasoned guy in abraham. Pretty much dominated him by all accounts. I still say that eubank is a big puncher. Hes got the type of power that hurts people similar to groves. Doesnt have that one punch k/o power but not many do against the level hes currently at. He also isnt going for the one punch k/o but wearing guys down by an accumulation. For me he is a dangerous puncher. Not a one punch hitter but he damages people with his accumulation pretty accurate when he does land also. Someone saying spike, blackwell and chudinov he couldnt put down. But lets be real he ended up putting blackwell in a coma. Spikes corner chucked the towel in before he was about to get broken down quite early in the fight and he pretty much wrecked chudinov. His record suggests hes a big puncher for me. A lot of his points victories we,re early in his career in 4 or 6 rounders. Abraham and bjs we,re seasoned enough not to get stopped but pretty much everyone else got wore down. People can maybe say his lack of technique at times might be a problem but a guy with eubanks record and his performances...the last thing people need to worry about is his punch power. Hes a damaging puncher for sure imo.
His punches are cushioned with all that padding. Take a look at the post fight press conference on YouTube. It's amazing how much he puts on. No wonder he can't stop his opponents. I actually think I'd rather get sparked out than take the kind of beating he dishes out with those 'padded' sandbag shots for 12 rounds. I'm excited about seeing what he can do against the genuine super middleweights including the lads who are coming down from light-heavy. Abraham's a middleweight, Quinlan was a tin can. Yildirim will be a big test.
Gonna watch the fight tonight twenty. I ll have a look out for the padding. Think the injuries holding him back a bit...needs to get it sorted properly. Regardless though should be going into that tournament with confidence. Got a lot going for him. Pity he had to move up but from the start he looks to me like hes gonna be a hard man to back against. Has a belief in himself that not many do...could be the difference between winning and losing the big fights. Not too sure of yildirim....dont think i ve seen him mate. But could be an interesting fight to see if he can hang at the weight. I think he,ll be fine. Just no sure i want to see a groves v eubank junior fight. Fans of both of them. They ll end up taking a lot out of each other imo. Groves has to start favourite tho cause with the eubanks smoke and mirrors stuff it is still hard to judge how good eubank really is. Got a feeling hes right up their tho. As much as groves would be favourite still think its hard to back against eubank against anyone in that tournament. Still say outside of canelo if he stayed at the weight eubank would have had the best chance against ggg. As crazy as that might sound. I think his style would give golovkin problems.
Chris Eubank Jr is yet another hype job waiting to get exposed. All that showboating and cockiness but without merit, much like Adrien Broner. In fact, I'd say CEJ is the Adrien Broner of the 160/168 division who will fold the first time he faces someone would can actually punch back.
I didn't think he needed to move up mate. Plenty of big fights at middleweight but he's dodged them to flirt with the super middles. There's a rematch with BJS but I wonder if he's going to try and tease BJS into fighting him at SM at some point where it would suit him more than BJS who's not even a big middleweight. There's Jacobs...GGG...Alvarez etc. I'll be amazed if he goes into this tournament.
Right enough twenty when you actually look at the opposition at middleweight hes probably better to move up. Although i ve said i d not really back against him. I would against all three of them in ggg, canelo and jacobs who looked like a bit of a beast in his last fight against ggg. I genuinely fancy him to do well in that tournament though. It is the easier option when you look at it. What you thinking about him not entering it. Too easy for him to make money fighting hand picked opponents with the itv ppv deal or another reason?
Think you got a bit too much sun on holiday with that post! There is far too much evidence of Eubanks lack of pop st this stage for you to go on ignoring it....
