Mayweather/McGregor Fight Discussion

I'm not taking any sides here, but if sports science and nutrition have improved so much why do we have more fatasses in the division than ever before?

You remember in the 90s when commentators, analysts and reporters used to get all sanctimonious, like when Tyson nibbled Holyfield's ear, or the brawl after the Bowe/Golota fight, or when Golota left the arena during the Tyson fight. "Boxing has a hit a new low tonight!" they'd scream.

Well where are they now, coz this is far worse than anything I saw in the 90s.

 

It seemed very scripted...

 

I don't fault it at all. Donald Trump is my president. Kim Kardashion is more set than most people in the US. Quality is not cared for anymore and shock value trumps all. The world imo has been a joke. The fact that people hype up flavor of the months like Connor is the reason this fight is even possible. Floyd just beats media creations and uses them to make money.

Once again I can't fault him for that. Floyd has been around in the spot light longer than any contemporary fighter. He worked hard and earned his position. These flavor of the months like Connor, Ronda Rousey, GGG's, Fury's. How long have these guys been around?

Today's culture is **** and a bunch of you add to this cesspool of **** and then try to play make believe like you detest what's going on. You guys don't give a **** so stop playing. You will all watch this as I will along with the rest of the world and life will go on and a new media creation/hypejob will be crowned as the next bs people's champ and moral victor.

In this case, we got Floyd being the man his imitation Connor strives to be. It's a tough lesson for a knock off to deal with the fact he couldn't surpass his predecessor. His 15 minutes are almost up and once again a good majority of you who are already marketing this fight whether you want to admit it or not will chip into Floyd's pocket. Simple as that.

Long live King Floyd. A real self made entrepreneur who made his empire from nothing. Modern day PT Barnum. None of you that are hating hold no credence. Stop building up and overhyping bums if you truly want to stop events like this from happening.

 

During an interview he did say that there is a possibility that he could lose because of his age and because of his opponent's training. As for throwing the fight? That I seriously doubt based on how much of an ego he has.
However, I don't doubt his willingness to make the fight seem close or cunningly connive to guarantee a money-making rematch. After all, he does keep reminding us that it's all about the money.

It was very disturbing, but let's face it Mayweather doesn't have to sell himself McGreggor did, and he did absolutely nothing to even give you the impression, he could be at least competitive. You all know this is a rendition of "The Great White Hype" right? The outcome will be just as anticlimactic as the one in the movie.

 

I haven't watched any of it. But both guys are total douchebags so it's not hard to believe.

 

i was at the local watering hole today and even the casuals, who wouldn't know carlos monzon from rodney allen rippey, generally said it looked too wwe-like. 'consensus is that it was a total farce/floyd popcorn fart.. but they were talking about it.

by gawd, i think it will make money, heaven help us. still, very hollow and empty display.

McGegor can take Mayweather's best shot better than I believe Mayweather can take Conor's. Let's be real, the guy is heavy handed. He's long, he's quick, he's got excellent timing, and he's dropped everyone he's gotten into the octagon with, even the much bigger Diaz.

I don't see Mayweather going for the knockout but simply evading and potshotting like he normally does. It will make for a boring fight.

What makes this even remotely interesting is the fact that there is no tape for Floyd to watch. His striking in MMA won't be nearly the same as when he boxes. Floyd has nothing to go on. He will have to figure him out in the ring, and that could take a couple rounds. Can he avoid getting tagged for 9+ minutes? Probably, but not definitely.

If by some miraculous chance McGregor catches him clean, he could do the impossible. But more than likely we are going to see 12-0 or 11-1 UD for Floyd. Yawn.

The trash talk was entertaining at times but it was stupid. Fake. Staged. Take your pick. After seeing the turn up for it though I think this fight does decent numbers, sadly. PPV needs to go away.
