Armstrong was an animal and probably top 2-3 ever. Barely anyone is getting over him, certainly in the lighter weights.
Incredible match up with excellent points being made from both sides. I feel Hammerin Hank fought the better opposition at their best in any weight. For me, Mayweather turned back peddler when going up in weight and fought the safe route. Armstrong wouldn't let him fight that way. And that's what the outcome would depend on.
I favor some of those guys like a prime Hearns. I'm still not comfortable picturing Floyd lose to him. Guess I'm being picky with my words. But I have no problem imagining a victory for a Robinson over Floyd. My mind comes to terms with that outcome comfortably.
Amstrong put a hell of a pace. Mayweather would have a counterpunching festival, but although he lands more and scores more rounds, the longer it goes, Armstrong overcomes with sheer volume and grit. Floyd probably doesn't have the pop to keep Armstrong honest.
When you pit a natural lightweight in with guys like hearns, robinson, benitez and armstrong its hard for the lightweight to win. Im not too familiar with armstrongs resume to say if he has or has not fought a guy as quick and smart as floyd was in his prime. But i am familiar enough with floyds resume to say that he hasnt fought a guy with such endless stamina, inside ability and most importantly a desire to win no matter what. The intelligence of barney ross, wolgast did not faze henry. Floyd certainly does not punch harder than zivic, and he still took a gazillion shots to stop a shot henry. In terms of style, an awkward volume puncher with a good chin has the better chance to beat a pure boxer puncher. Whos the best comparison to armstrong in floyds resume? Maidana pushed him very close, and armstrong is at least twice the fighter that maidana is, and wouldnt get frustrated and discouraged. An old de la hoya made floyd realize he couldnt go toe to toe with bigger speedy skilled offensive fighters. Id really like to know who voted floyd to stop a prime armstrong. Could floyd, an atg in his own right, beat henry in his bad nights? I think he has the foot speed and infighting to do so. Prime for prime, i cant see henry losing.
Woops, i accidentally implied armstrong is the bigger man. In that case ill just say armstrong beat the bigger fighters more handily, and with less catch weights to boot.
Armstrong is on him like flies on ****!!! He has nothing to keep Hank off of him for 15 rounds....Armstrong makes him work every minute of every round...
I agree that Armstrong would give Mayweather fits, but I think people would be surprised what a bunch of razor sharp counters to Armstrong's nose might do to his pacing and punch output.
Floyd is a safety first fighter. His instinct is to retreat in a shell, make the other fighter miss and spent energy. he is not that much of a natural counter puncher like james toney for instance.
