Just watched his presser with BJS. Saunders was ripping into him calling him a quitter and mentally weak for quitting in the 6th vs Golovkin. Willie responded by saying he didn't get a full camp, that he took the fight on short notice. 6 week camp. I was like, no you didn't. At 8 minute mark This content is protected Edit: he also said that the moment shook him up as well, fighting in front of 15k screaming fans booing him. That's fair statement So I just searched and lo and behold the fight was announced March 13, the fight was held May 16. That gave him 9 weeks to prepare for the fight FOH Willie https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndic...ced-date-comments-reaction-for-fight.amp.html
Willie Monroe got paid peanuts to fight GGG it is BS and criminal. Strange I thought Monroe had a short camp for the GGG fight. Nonetheless Monroe is terribly underrated and I think people are going to find his fight with BJS boring. Would be nice if they were scheduled to fight different opponents
He did get paid peanuts which was a shame. But Wade who did FAR WORSE got paid 500k. Maybe that was due to Wade being IBF mando and/or Haymon
Monroe could beat BJS. Wouldn't surprise me at all. Will be a hard fight to judge ...all depends on what the judges like.
Philadelphia, PA (March 16, 2015)–This past Friday it was announced that Boxcino 2014 Middleweight champion Willie Monroe Jr. has accepted the challenge and will fight WBA/IBO and WBC Interim Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkinon May 16 at the Forum in Inglewood,California. The event will be televised Live on HBO World Championship Boxing® beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. I mean that's pretty official. You have the date, time and location set more than 2 months out, 9 weeks exactly.
I was at that fight. When he got beat up in that 6th round I figured it was over. No shame in quitting when he did. I mean all that would happen is he would get put down even harder. No way he was going to hurt GGG. He spared himself a beating.
watch the interview. at 8 minutes exactly he kind of stutters and says "uh you know, others got 12 week camp, we got uh, 6 weeks notice" LOL This content is protected
Monroe Jr. looks really uncomfortable. He's "only" a sportsman, he's not made for these "fights" outside the ring. BJS might get into Monroe Jr.'s head, as Tokido was in Punk's head yesterday on ESPN, in front of a bigger audience than some "A-sides".
