According to reports, Smith Jr., had his jaw broken in the early stages of the second round. Sort of explains a lot.

He had the jaw broken in the same place he suffered the break in his prior loss.

Strong mutha****a ,tough as steel forged in a General Motors Plant.
9 rounds with a broken jaw and mirkofilipovic cried about Kovalev weak stomach getting smashed by Andre Ward.
So far the only fighters not whining like girls come from America. I'm not bashing either, just stating the real.

Lives by the warriors code, having previously had a similar injury and knowing that it could cause further damage and fighting on is what real warriors do. He was down by plenty of rounds too.

SOB did not hit Kovalev in the stomach, he hit him in the testicles, the video and still pictures do not lie. I have been hit there and it really hurts, not fair when only one boxer has to go by the rules............SOB is a cheat, pure piece of fecal matter........

Smith is strong as hell, hits very hard, if not for the broken jaw it probably would have been a different fight, although Smith has no skills, but he has heart................

He's tough alright but injuries are unfortunately part of the game. Would have been more impressed if he had the broken jaw and still won.

He's a ****ing badass, his chin is damn impressive, Barrera who is a big puncher, after all he marked Ward up with the handful of shots he actually landed, landed some huge shots on him after the second round, most normal people who wilt and look for a way out, not Joe. Like Reiss I kind of thought something was out of sorts for Joe, that was completely out of character for him, but the reality is he was looking for a way to land a bomb without risking exacerbating his injury, he couldn't find one. So all the talk about him being a **** poor boxer hopefully can be put to rest, he proved how good his timing and counters can be in the first, but after having your jaw broken, it might make you a little apprehensive to go all out and do what you do best.

So this is actually a good thing for him, no one will begrudge him losing to a superior boxer with KO power on points when he had a broken freaking jaw. If anything it adds to his badass tough as nails everyman mystique.:ggg

joe is a beast. but must be careful to fight on. i heard it broke once before. so lets hope it doesnt reoccur over and over again . if it happens again it might be time to retire due to this . maybe sum doctors can fix the issue.

but joe can get sum big names for sure. he can fight the monaghen guy. the guy marcus browne just bashed in 2rounds. or he can go after a big name like pascal. if he really wants a challenge call out kovalev hes coming off 2 losses. kovalev doesnt want to fight a guy like barrera. barrera knows how to box and barrera is gunna be using hi athleticism and movement and kovalev is gunna be sick n tired of a fighting guys like that so a joe smith route i can see kovalev goin for.

Joe Smith Jr vs Seanie Monaghan is actually a very good comeback fight for Smith, once his jaw is fully healed up. It's a Long Island grudge match -- Monaghan has been calling Smith Jr out for a while -- so it would draw big at Nassau Coliseum. Given Sean's glass jaw, the matchup also provides Smitty with a showcase KO win and gives Monaghan the opportunity at a good payday.
