It was. In evaluating one punch Ko's it all comes down to if the person KO'ed was clear headed at the time of the punch. I believe JJW was.
I'm astonished. It was either a one punch ko, or that was the the most unbelievably fast flurry that Marciano ended fight with...so fast that you couldn't see anything except that right hand. If the thread starter is referring in some way to that grazing left that Marciano threw afterwards like an after thought...then this thread is null and void.
It was of course the famous right hand that dropped Walcott, but that isn't the full story of the fight. Marciano s constant high work man rate, banging away at Jersey, Walcott s age and his soaking up of rocks punches all led to that final punch. Just as Frazier relentless grinding forward, in Ali's face, finally enabled him to drop Ali, marciano s work did the trick with Walcott.
This is obviously what the op meant but if you deem the walcott-rock knockout as not a one punch knockout suddenly alot of one punch knockouts stop being one punch knockouts. In fact you would only be left with a handful.
But in some cases you'll get two guys fighting away evenly and then suddenly.. Bang.. A ko punch from no where. In other occasions you get another fighter like for instance Frazier with Ali, where they'll keep coming keep banging away. And bit by bit it wears the other guy down until there ripe for the kd or ko. Hearns V Duran. Hearns kod Duran with one punch but what went before resulted in that. As did rock against Joe.
Look at the lead up to the KO This content is protected Walcott is fast on his feet, mobile. Setting up feints, using his jab. Slipping. He's literally dancing on his feet right before the KO. There is not one thing indicating that he is about to get knocked out. Anyone saying this isn't a one punch KO is suffering some real agenda-itis.
