WHOS YOUR PICK ? MY PICK LUIS ORTIZ BY 7TH RD TKO/KO THE RIGHT UPPERCUT ON THE INSIDE WILL BUST DEONTAY UP AND I THINK ORTIZ HAS A GREAT CHIN AND I THINK DEONTAY DOESNT AND WHEN HE GETS CLIPPED HES GONNA GO BYE BYE
Ortiz can be out boxed and he can be out worked as he tends to be one paced. Wilder has the tools to win if he boxes and moves and stays active and doesn't engage. But Ortiz is a big step up in class for Wilder. We will hopefully finally see Wilder truly tested in the ring, he'll either rise to the occasion or go down hard and fold. I'm going against the general consensus and say Wilder wins a decision. I can't help but remember Ortiz being befuddled by Scott, he spent so much of that fight doing nothing, unwilling to engage as he was confused by Scott's movement. With Wilder's superior speed, height and reach and with more power coming back at him I can see a similar situation.
I can see that, i picked ortiz based on pure skill but as sloppy as wilder can look at times, he's got size, reach, and it only takes one shot from him to change the fight
Im not a Wilder fan but he knocks Ortiz out maybe behind on the scorecards too. Ortiz is too old and slow.
Wilder will be way ahead on the cards. So far in fact that he will take more risk and try to take Ortiz out of there but will be caught by a wild swing by Ortiz that changes everything and Ortiz wins by tko. Kinda weird as it's normally Wilder that catches opponents with wild swings but he's going to be the victim of one this time.
That's a scenario that I could definitely see happen. Wilder does leave himself massively open to being countered at times. But it relies on Wilder making a mistake and in those scenarios I see that as the least likely outcome. Wilder fights 2 ways, he can be awfully sloppy and reckless which is when you see him losing rounds to Szpilka, Duhaupas, Washington etc. Then there is the far more cautious Wilder who moves and boxes as we saw with Stiverne and Arreola and I expect the far more cautious Wilder in this fight.
Ortiz actually has a longer reach than Wilder, but even as a fan of Ortiz I have to admit each fight he looks a little slower.
This is how I see it too. Everyone is predicting ko, but like Wilder Stiverne, I think they will both be leery of each other's power and I give the edge to Wilder to pick up enough rounds with length and movement to win.
Totally different skill levels. Ortiz might get jabbed a bit to start but then his pedigree shows for a mid round stoppage
Theres fellas that punch harder than Wilder and have proper technique at heavy. Why hes classed as some monster puncher i'll never know.
