Cooney`s best punch was by far the hook, look at how many hooks AJ blocked when Wlad tried to finish him there`s no way Norton would have survived that, your making AJ sound like Frank Bruno, watch Barry Robinson`s film studies on Joshua, he has a brilliant trainer.
Ali landed a good right hand at the start of this fight, if AJ landed that early it would all over that`s the kind of power Joshua has and the kind of chin Norton had against big punchers! Tyson would have finished him early if he landed then also. Norton`s defense was based on keeping a good percentage of punches out while throwing a lot himself, that`s not good enough against big punchers.
I don't recall him being physically knocked out - in fact I don't think he even got knocked down. someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought he got tagged, given a standing 8, then got tagged again - and was definitely a bit wobbly, however the ref decided to stop it.
Well he was still hurt badly with head gear on. Also I believe the gloves in the amateur are bigger? Either case the casual younger fan keeps bringing up height like that means something. There are weight classes. Once you are 205 pounds and over you are a heavyweight. You don't need to be 270 pounds or 6'6 to be effective. Also the point I was making about Joshua being stopped by one 6'0 200 pound guy then other 6'0 200 pound guys could do it too. Wlad landed one good right hand one Joshua and almost knocked him out. If Wlad would of been more agressive he would of stopped him. Ken Norton didn't have the punching power of Wlad but he didn't need too. Joshua is wild and crude and can't take a punch. Norton chin wasn't the best but it usually took more than 1 punch to knock him down and hurt him.
Norton was knocked down 3 times and out Vs light hitting jose luis garcia who weighed in at 188lbs....
