When did this become a bodybuilding forum ? Seriously, critiqueing physiques now are we ? There's nothing "freakish" about the look of Louis's body. He looks like a proper fit athlete, a heavyweight. His phsique wasn't "freakish", but what he did in a boxing ring was certainly exceptional.
In the gif posted especially, Louis looks like a fit man is supposed to look (no homo). If that's considered "freak" today, things must have really gotten bad.
Sorry, but I don't see what's so freakish about that. He was well-built no doubt, and in the pre-steroid era that's even more meaningful than it is today, but compare him to someone like Wilder who has coat hangers for shoulders and he looks pretty ordinary.
This is indicative of some of the over-the-top hero worship that sprouts up on this forum from time to time. Some seem to assume that because Louis was an amazing boxer, everything about him must be amazing (e.g. his muscles, his footwork & mobility, his quality of opposition...).
Charlize Theron and Michelle Obama have similar builds.....wide shoulders, thin chest. But Louis's arms definitely look thicker in that photo. Bigger biceps that most B&W photos or videos.
Right, if Louis was a skinny twig, all the same... Maybe when I said freakish, people were expecting he had a siamese twin.
His proportions ar unusually optimized for a power punching boxer. Some people appreciate the subtitles, and some don't.
Maybe you were being wildly over the top? Louis had pretty ordinary stats, even for the 40's.I like your clips and have no problem saying so ,I just think your interpretation of the latest two is wide of the mark.I actually thought the Braddock one was a wind up!
Maybe his stats weren't freakish, but his proportions look like they were. He looks perfectly optimized for an athlete with lots of stamina, who can produce explosive power. The size of his shoulder arms and neck in relation to his torso just doesn't look normal. You can tell there is something special there. You missed the punch the first 6 times watching the Braddock clip...
I always though Ward was similar to Louis . Small shoulders with a long wing span. And in the way he chopped hooks to head and body. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/XU0tfUhx8qw/maxresdefault.jpg http://vesti.kz/userdata/gallery/gallery_1738/photo_63518.jpg https://i.ytimg.com/vi/unLu-FL1RBQ/maxresdefault.jpg
I don't see much freakish about that picture to be honest. He looks about as well built as a great number of fighters today or in years past. What was freakish though, was how good is boxing skills were. It's like Kevin says, it's not enough sometimes to call somebody one of the best HW ever. It's like they have to be perfect at everything. I've seen Joe Louis lauded as having great defense, his defense was not great, but again, to some everything must be out of the world. The bobble head comment was funny.
