Prime Ali. The fastest heavyweight ever. Nobody could hit him. He picks them all apart. The Greatest period!'n
Joe sort of jumped after being hit. But yeah in a way it kinda looked like the force of Foreman's punched lifted him into the air. Not really, but it's fun to say it did.
Just to be clear, when you say Fastest heavyweight ever, in your mind you're thinking about mid 1960s Clay / Ali right? I mean he was still fast in the 1970s, but I would say by then he probably wasn't the faster ever. I mean in the 1970s, he was still one of the fastest ever, but in the 1960s he was THE undisputed fastest Heavyweight Ever right? I mean by the mid to late 1970s, he had lost most of his quickness. He still had good footwork and could move around the ring, but by then he was more hittable, plenty were able to cut off the ring and trap him, whereas nobody could cut off the ring and trap him in the 1960s.
Like what being out of the ring for almost 4 years and coming back to win the lineal hvw championship?
He's AT LEAST top 3 all-time as a HW. He has one of the best resumes of all time, with wins over Foreman, Frazier, Liston, and Norton.
I think we have to say there's a number of HW Ali simply couldn't beat, and there a whole bunch of hw & few cw that could and should whoop Ali any day of the week
It doesn't matter. Anyone over 230 lbs has a chance to beat Ali. Even if they haven't fought Ali type comp under pressure they can win. And if they're 240+ pounds then they ko Ali. But they won't beat Lennox, Vitali, or any big heavy.
Yes, any Casual will say Ali is the greatest, because they don't know the facts. Just the other day a guy I know named his new dog 'Ali'. I asked why and he said "Greatest boxer of all time. And he could take you out with either hand." This made me groan...Ali taking someone out with either hand! I pressed him and he could only name one Ali opponent...Frazier. I am okay with calling Ali great, but his record is very inflated with gift decisions and dubious victories.
Mercer could've given Ali an L on that performance no probs...Also, cuts stopped it with Cooper. That skinny little londoner had ali's respect with the bare basics.
Put your hand on your heart and tell me you think one man can lift another man off his feet with a punch, please ! Are you for real ?
