Perfectly legal, excellent body punches. Watch Kovalev bend over illegally and start turning away trying to avoid getting hit with anymore. No complaints to the ref, he knew those were legit blows. If Ward had carried on punching like he should have done, the fight would have been stopped there and then. Protect yourself at all times. Bear in mind this was near the start of round 8, before the headshot that sparked the beginning of the end.

All this talk about nut punches is total nonsense. For those that don't understand the basics of male human anatomy, or know what a lowblow looks like, please refer to this video for an actual example of nut punching:

Apart from the final punch (and even that is arguable) Kovalev was not hit low once during that fight. If you disagree, feel free to post video evidence in this thread. Otherwise, case closed.

The final sequence has been posted several times..

Ward backs Kov to the ropes, Kov throws 2 punches as Ward comes in, Ward throws 2 to the body, the last one being low and landing clearly on the capital B on Kov's trunks. My issue with it has always been the fight should not have ended on that punch.

I dont get the point of this thread.

Posting video from an earlier round of the fight, when the issue people have is the punch that ended the fight, which was not arguable, it was in fact so below the belt it hit the lettering. Video of this is everywhere...

    That's fair enough.

What irks me is those that claim Kovalev was hit low constantly throughout the fight, when he wasn't hit low once up until the final punch where he was bent double obscuring Wards (and Weeks' vision).

The point is to prove Kovalev wasn't hit low up until the final punch like so many are claiming (if that punch even was low, certainly didn't look like it hit anywhere near the testicular area). If you agree the only potential low blow was the shot that Weeks ended the fight on then we don't have a problem here.

And that footage is from the final round.

The problem with this fight is people are confusing the "nuts" vs. "low".

The punch was low and if you can't see that, you are legitimately ignoring video evidence. It doesn't matter if he was hit in the sack or in the bladder....the punch was low.

Those two body shots cut Kovalev in half , he had to take a time out and at that point Ward was well in his rights to lay into him.

He planted the seed of doubt into Weeks thoughts about his willingness to be in the fights. By the third time he backed out , Weeks had seen enough and called it off.

It was still a premature stoppage , but Kovalev contributed to his decision to end it.

Any issues with the stoppage lie with Kovalev and Weeks. Ward boxed within the rules and proved to be the better man.

Yes it does matter. It also matters what position the opponent was in when the punch was thrown. As a referee, you have to take everything into account when deciding if something is a foul or not.

We are having people cry about how Ward hits Kovalev in the nuts, and basically make it seem like Ward only won the fight because he hit Kovalev in the nuts, some acting like there were multiple "nut" shots. I mean the level of exaggeration here is unbelievable, and your comment is just a means to basically excuse these type of misrepresentations of what happened by simply saying "it doesn't matter how low it was, the punch was low".

I don't think anyone here on either side of this is denying the fact that the last punch was low. We have people claiming that it was really low, particularly low enough to be in the nuts, indicating that it was a dirty punch or aimed extremely low to hit Kovalev precisely in the nuts. This is what we are dealing with posters saying, to which we are very accurately correcting this.

Here's what we know : The last punch was clearly low, but not low enough to be in the nuts. Aside from the last punch, none of Ward's preceding punches appeared to be below the belt-line. We have people claiming Ward was hitting Kovalev low repeatedly. I mean we have people here exaggerating and acting like Ward is a dirty fighter or something. You have to take into account how Kovalev was in a fetal position and while in that position, as Ward trying to land a body shot to end the fight, he has no idea where Kovalev's belt-line is. He has to get really low to land a punch to the body "upward" when an opponent is hunched over in such a fetal position that he is basically so hurt to the body that he is in that position to protect the body. Ward got Kovalev to need to be in that fetal "protect the body" position with legal belt-line punches. That's why he was there in the fetal position to begin with, he didn't want to go down, and he was brutalized to the body, he just curled up like a little baby in his crib. Ward did that, and Ward didn't do that by hitting him in the nuts or even low. While Kovalev was in a fetal position Ward landed it a little low. Well Ward wasn't aiming for it to be low, he was punching upward, he don't know where Kovalev's body is when he's hunched over like a baby protecting his precious body.

Those Golota blows were perfectly legal; Bowe just can't take it to the body.

If they look low it's just because of the funny camera angle and the fact that Bowe's trunks were too high. Facts.

If only Weeks had been the ref he would have correctly proclaimed Golota the winner because Bowe didn't want anymore of those legitimate body shots.

Negitive! Weeks pointed out what was low before the fight started! He layed his hand across the waist band of Kov and said that was a good shot. My question is, why didn't Kov or his corner protest at that point? Maybe because they knew the shot on the band was good! Anyone with eyes and ears can hear what Weeks said and see where Weeks pointed. Ignoring these facts is just pure hate!
