Both in their best shape. Who takes it, and why?

Povetkin is a good technical fighter who has a habit of fighting down to his opponents level.
Bear is not the most technically sound fighter so i cant see him just showing up and scoring a KO.
Povetkin can hit pretty hard himself and I can see him landing on Max whos not that hard to hit.
Going against the grain and picking Povetkin

    Similar to Louis vs baer.

Povetkin rips his vicious combos on baer's head and body untill baer quits or gets ko'd.

Povetkin has good enough defense and chin to deal with baer's wild haymakers

Povetkin via UD or later round TKO. Even though he's 37 now, I'd like to see Povetkin get his shot vs Joshua or Wilder soon. I suspect he was better than they were, and if he beats them now, there will be no question.

This fight will either resemble Baer vs Louis or Huck vs Povetkin. I tend towards the former. Povetkin was just a bit too talented to lose to a wild swinging brawler at his best, and could punch plenty hard enough to hurt and stop Baer. Baer could cause him problems, but for me he lacks the speed and explosiveness that made Huck such a handful for Povetkin, and that'd be the difference.

We are talking the best Baer. Not the Baer who fought Louis. The best Baer beats the best Potvikin.

    This.

Actually, I think Povetkin flattens him and makes it look easy.

Sasha has GOOD inside skills and he can slip punches with the best of them. Those wild looping telegraphed punches would do little more than make Povetkin laugh and maybe drool a little at the thought of countering. Do people not watch fighters anymore?

Povetkin is fast, Povetkin is accurate and Povetkin hits damn hard in combination.

Alexander's workrate is high for a HW and Baer is lazy in the ring.

Worst of all for little Max Baer, Povetkin has about 20-25lb over him in weight, so he's not going to be able to impose his size like against Schmeling, for example. Povetkin has taken BOMBS from brutes like Takam (252lb 69%KO) and not only shook them off but carried on blasting away until a KO win. Only guy to really shake Pov up was Klitschko and we all know how hard he hits.

Frankly I think Huck beats Baer.

It'd be a very good contest no doubt. When these two unload it'd be like WW3.

What Povetkin fights do you consider to be him at his best?

That's unfair to Perry. He'd actually have to watch Povetkin fight for the first time in his life to answer that.
