Sucks that Beterbiev will probably only fight once this year... After all that hassle. If he dusts of Koelling early and without issue it would be nice to see him in the ring in Nov or Dec, even if it's against a relatively low level fighter.

What happens if Koelling does the sensible thing and pulls out?

We all know in that case Ward gives up the belt without a fight

Does Beterbiev become Champ by defeating the entire division via fear?

Well, this is positive news, it looked like he wasn't going to get a fight this year. Now it looks like Top Rank might sign him and get him some better fights.

He might become a champ that way, since Ward is unlikely to be keen on a low-money high-risk money vs Beterbiev; but I don't see the other up-and-comers such as Gvozdyk, Bivol, or Kovalev (if he stays at LHW) avoiding him, so he'll have to beat a few names to become the man at 175 lb.

In the long run perhaps guys like Buatsi or Yarde will get into the mix too.

I find it really hard to imagine how things are going to pan out being IBF.
If Ward indeed vacates IBF, it should be Gvozdyk vs Beterbiev for the vacant IBF title (Skoglund is in WBSS and Koelling would've been KO'd by Beterbiev), Gvozdyk will also get another win to become no.2 lock.

Yes. But I suspect that Top Rank won't want Beterbiev vs Gvozdyk before it is a unification fight, it's far better for them financially to wait and send Gvozdyk after one of the other titles.

Beterbiev is so overhyped. Crude, wide punches, zero defense, zero jab. KO waiting to happen. Not surprised he pulled out of the Barrera fight.
