Thats what Ali thought too. If you think Frazier only had a hook then u havent taken the time to study Frazier
I watched Frazier live did you? Joe was a hooker with a uncoordinated right hand. Joe said himself his right was a work in progress going into Manilia. Joe never knocked any fighter down in his entire career with his right. Louis was one of the most devastating two handed punchers in boxing history while Ali was a light hitter. Joe could take Ali's shots. He would not be able to take Louis punches for long. Louis controls Fraziers hook by sidestepping to his left and countering. Once a counter hurts Frazier it's all over.
Louis might be the most complete heavyweight ever, but I'd pick the 60's/70's group over Baer, Carnera, Braddock and schmeling. I think George runs through those guys just as easily. Aside from Schmeling, Ali does as well.
Frazier used his rt to the body and head as a decoy at times to let the hook rip. Louis would not be able to deal with Fraziers preasure head movement and footwork let alone his work rate. Louis would get stopped in this fight. Louis never fought anyone even close to the style Frazier would bring to the table. Just because you watched him doesnt mean u studied him. No I never saw him live. But I was in the Gym working with him. Were you??
Frazier was a slow starter in too many cases, not good vs Joe Louis. I'd give Frazier a shot, but I'm taking Louis here via stoppage.
Really? Something to think about. Tyson was unable to floor Holyfield. Ruiz's floored Holyfield and had him hanging on illegally to survive the round. Holyfield TKOD Tyson. That's something Holy could not do to Ruiz. Ruiz beat Holy twice and drew once. Tyson lost both fights against Holy and resorted to biting due to frustration. Seems like the skill deficit is on the other foot.
More or less 50-50 fight for me. I rewatched Frazier-Ellis the other day and watched the Ramos fight for the first time (GREAT fight btw) and watching them it kind of makes me sad that the Foreman fight always will be in people's mind, especially when matching Joe against punchers. He truly was a shadow of himself at his best that night. Yes, he always was there to be hit, especially in the early stages, and that is very dangerous against a supreme puncher like Louis, but he was also totally relentless, ripping opponents apart with that great hook. Ramos had him out on his feet with a brutal uppercut, but he just kept coming and floored the very durable Mexican later in the round. Nightmare to face.
I think it would bring out Louis' stunning accuracy and combinations as well as his ability to get up from the floor, perhaps to win... Everyone discounts Frazier as a one-handed fighter, and thats true to an extent, but he had that style mastered. Even when you knew the thing you had to worry about was the hook, he still hit you with it. Over and over again. I think Frazier is more durable and has a better chin. I also think Ali's power is underrated when it suits a point to be made. This fight would bring out the best offensive demonstration Louis could offer, plus his grit and determination to win. I slightly favor Frazier here, but this would be a showcase of strengths by both fighters.
I've watched Ali, Foreman, Shavers and Frazier train and watched them all fight live. Frazier does not have the skills to handle a prime Joe Louis.
