Anyone with Broner's resume is undoubtedly a good fighter, a legit B grader. He's beaten enough 'ok' comp to warrant that position but of course, he isn't a very good fighter. He marketed himself well and established himself as a name, I can't hate him for that. The only boxers I dislike are those who avoid challenges. Broner is refreshing to me. I don't like him, but I respect him as a boxer.
His resume says 4 division world champion. Which is almost always a good resume. Usually if you have 4 world titles you would have beaten somebody better than DeMarco. But in Broner's case he's an exception to a quadruple world champion rule.
He isn't some natural featherweight that moved up, though. He didn't "grow" to where he is. Broner has always, from from beginning of his career, been a natural welterweight. He used to stuff himself like a sausage into a lighter frame to beat up MUCH smaller men, as mentioned earlier, taking advantage of modern 24 hour weigh one and the rehydration advantage it affords fighters with low ethical scruples (or concern for the effect on their health from draining)
Broner sleepwalked through the fight. It was poor and The guy just doesn't have what it is takes to operate at the very top. It's why when people try and equate Broner with Floyd is nothing but a joke. Mayweather knew how to get the job done no matter what. Yeah he loved the money but he had a desire not to lose.
I don't feel sorry for him at all. He's always been a POS. Look at him acting like a **** mean mugging Garcia every 2 seconds. I'm aware of that, but he had more power and more relative strength at the lower weights compared to his opponents - sometimes with boxers, they're good because of their physical advantages over others.
Broner is a great fighter, unfortunately he is not an elite fighter. Talks the talk but can't walk the walk unlike his daddy Money Mayweather. He was hyped up too much when he was younger and after the Maidana loss he has never seem to be the same figther. Berto 2.0, Ortiz 2.0 PS. Why did he shave his beard? This. Broner is very scared of being stopped or embarrassed. Broner barely threw a punch the whole fight. The only time he got Mikey's respect was when he stood his ground and fired off a combo on the inside, but he only did that once. Broner was also hesitating a lot, which is a clear sign of fear.
I respect him like I respect any fighter, just for being a figher, but not other than that. This 4 division champ stuff just shows the sad state of boxing today. He's really the definition of a paper champ. The 2 fighters with a name that he beat for titles, Demarco should have won in that fight and then he barely beat Paulie and Paulie isn't great fighter by any means.
Even though he won his 4 titles beating on smaller guys, it is still a big acheivment. Broner is entaining (because he trash talks) and it takes an elite guy to beat him. At his age, he could still grab a title in the coming years.
I personally do not like Broner for not living up to his persona in the ring - he gathers a lot of attention outside of the ring, and presents himself as an interesting match up for many opponents.. but when he steps inside the ring, he just doesn't show enough effort and dedication to the sport - he's passive and boring. And those appeals to make anybody respect Broner or any other fighter look like attempts to limit somebody's thoughts. It's okay to show respect and disrespect to anybody for as long as you don't cross any lines.
