Why the reluctance to make a Superheavyweight Division?

Cunningham was never a top heavyweight.

Because there's no f'n need for it maybe? yeah, split the already thin HW division, and take a few guys out to form their own division, where 4-5 guys can fight over all the titles.

 

There's simply no need for one. In the period of the last 15 years which could be roughly designated as the "Super-HW era" there's been a number of smallish HW champs/top contenders.

Big legs aren't really required for power though, I think Wilder proves that. His legs are like a 16yr old girls!

 

even Ali was 200 lbs at one point. In his prime he likely could have made 200lbs with the day before weigh in.

 

HWs will still challenge SHWs anyway so there is no point whatsoever.

 

Boxing should adapt the MMA weight classes.

 

There are that few HW fighters over 220 pounds? I get the impression that the vast majority of present HWs are above 220 pounds.

They pretty much all are, if they where any less they would most likely boil down to cruiser.

No need for a SHW division though, as many posters have said.

 

Prime Ali fought as HW at approx. 2015. Prime Frazier at 205 and later at 210. Frazier came in at 210 for his second fight with Ali and Ali said that Frazier had come in too heavy for his own good. He'd weighed 205 for their first encounter. HW champ Floyd Patterson only weighed 182 pounds when he fought Ingmar Johansson for he HW title. HW champ Rocky Marciamo never fought heaver than 186 pounds. Joe Walcott was HW champ at 195 pounds.

It provides statistical evidence that the higher an opponent's weight the harder it became for Ali, Shavers, and Frazier to knock them out.

 

Izu is more in the 6''3 range like Parker. He was also clearly outsized by a more talented Heavyweight in Breazeale.

 

No but a top Cruiserweight, just as Ali would have been today.

Even Ali weighted under 200 lbs alot of times during his early years. And also he weighted 201 pounds during his so called "peak years 65-67" TOday he would have made cruiser without problem during his peak years...

No, I want Miller, Valuev and Dong. MMA sucks, just imagen that Big Show or Shaq wouldn't be allowed to compete... Their Heavyweight championare not a true heavyweight champion like in boxing.

Because small cruisers can't compete with Natural born Heavies...

Real heavyweights are super heavyweights.
