Depends on which one lands the first punch. Liston could knock a person out with one punch, Joshua can't move like Ali did, esp. when Ali was young and at his very peak..............
Liston was about 217lbs at his peak and relied on being the bigger, stronger man in his fights since he tended to be at a disadvantage in other areas. Against Joshua he'd be fighting a man bigger, stronger and faster than him. Not saying that alone determines the outcome, but it'd be foolish to ignore the psychological dynamic that'd be at play here.
Foreman would have outgunned Liston and would probably have had the edge on psychological intimidation as well. George was too big and hit too hard with both hands which would have seen him spark Liston inside 4 rounds. Anthony Joshua is bigger than both by some margin, he's faster and hits at least as hard if not harder. He'd blow Liston away! It's difficult to fairly judge these matchups because genetics, nutrition and training methods have advanced today's fighters beyond anything that yesteryear can offer. It's the same reason that Lennox Lewis would beat Ali in a straight up comparison. Lennox is too big and powerful but also has fantastic speed of foot and hand that, while not as good as Ali's, when it's combined with his size and power creates a complete combination which is too much for golden age fighters.
He has historical bias which means no fighter from the present can possibly compete with the legends of previous generations... I'm surprised people haven't been on this thread to shoot it down yet.
Actually he was closer to 210 at his peak. His peak was very early 60's if not sooner. ali never fought peak liston and that was 1964. So these ppl are asking a lunger who exposes his head for counter right hands ( what Joshua does) and is outweighed by about 30 pounds plus or so to win the fight. Even if liston was 6'3 230 ,his skills and style dont suggest he wins this bc we never seen Liston actually fight refined SHW's of even 220 plus.joshua is by far the more skilled/refined and smarter fighter with more to work with than a guy who actually relied on size unlike Joshua who relies on skills first. We dont even need Joshua here bc plenty others would hand Listion an L who wouldnt last with joshua.
Reach isnt an advantage here( he actually doesnt have a reach advantage bc Joshua is 6'6) ,because joshua would have easily got on his inside and nullified his jab if not match jabs with him much easier than the better jabber Klitchko had.i cant beleive ppl actually think this is a fair fight really and have a hard time dissecting this one. if you put foreman in here it than is equal ...put Joshua in and its unheard of? boxing logic for you..lol
Yeah, Joshua doesn't even rely on his size which some people don't seem to understand, you see almost no holding from his side and he likes to get inside and doesn't rely on his reach to the same level other big heavyweights like Lennox Lewis,Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury did, he is a very unusual tall heavyweight in the most positive way.
That is a list of advantages Joshua has over Liston. I would also add skill, size and strength to that list.
There will be plenty of hate for him for sure,i posted ALOT of info on him and in general on here....come visit my posts 10 years from now and we will see who the fools were on here. Theres such a huge gap in skill etc...with joshua over all other HW's and certainly 210 pound ones in actual head to head matches ...its pure stupidity at this point that boxing fans discredit their own sport in suggesting the fighters arent better today....their that dumb.
