Lomachenko vs Marriaga does 750k views

Likely had a little to do with all the BS ESPN put forth that night.

 

ESPN screwed Lomachenko over in two major ways:
1. Showing the fight 1.5 hours later than scheduled!
2. Putting a boring NFL HOF speech on the channel, moving to ESPN2, and then moving back to ESPN1 for the main event impromptu.

All of that showboating, for 750k people.

 

It was a cluster**** start to finish. They kept changing what channel the fights were on.

 

Yikes that's very bad. Would be solid if it was on HBO but on ESPN?

 

Considering he's a 130 pounder I don't think the numbers are that bad.

 

For the amount of money Bob put into Loma, I'm pretty sure he expected far higher numbers. Doesn't Loma do similar numbers on HBO?

 

Also the channel flip flopping and poor undercard didn't help I imagine.

 

Bob should have stuck with HBO. Pretty sure HBO pays more than ESPN, especially with the numbers he's going to deliver. If Crawford/Indongo does sub 1 mill, that's very bad, and a massive failure for top rank. 2 of their best fights doing sub 1 mill on ESPN.

 

How does that stack up with PBC cards on FS1, Spike, etc?

 

Excuses. Certain other fighters don't get these types of excuses when evaluating their brand based off of views. Loma is not a star. He's like Wilder: not as big as their promoter would like them to be, or have you believe.

 

Not sure about events where the star like "lomachenko" is fighting bad opposition. But Thurman/Garcia peaked at 5.1m. Thurman/Porter did 3.1m.

 

Those were on straight up CBS or Fox, though. A much much larger potential audience than ESPN.

 

Not really sure what those other numbers were for the bigger stars that are comparable to Lomachenko for those other networks. Also Spike really isn't comparable to ESPN either. Pretty sure ESPN has a significantly higher viewer base than Spike especially for sports.

 

Adrien Broner vs. Ashley Theophane on Spike did 1.013 M viewers.

Not good for the "Lomo the New Superstar" argument.
