Can one of you Spanish speakers give a brief summary of what Marriaga says here please?

Broner does serve as a pretty good litmus test.
Garcia was at 140. He doesn't look as good at 140, his power isn't as good, but is a force at 135 and physically he's a force at 135. There's a massive difference between someone Broner sized and someone Lomachenko sized.
Broner is a big LWW and Mikey is a big LW.
With all of this said, Mikey beat Broner more widely and convincingly than anyone else did. Mikey beat him more convincingly than a HUGE Shawn Porter with all of his advantages. Broner gets better as a fight goes on, he dropped Porter, and only landed a couple of combinations on Mikey.

Mikey especially at 135 is a top fighter.

Basically, what Teddy was trying to say is that this is what Loma does during fights:

i have noticed this over and over again on these thread; i just don't think it's been mentioned until now.

their amateur career is almost used against them--a regimen which can require two fights per day during tournaments, and 25 - 30 fights each year or more--and no money. Only three rounds, but that just means you have very little time to read your opponent.

there's more than enough evidence in 2017 that there is massive variance in how fighters age. Rick Hatton's skills declined seriously at 30.

on the other hand, next month, Crawford and Indongo fight and the winner will own all four major belts in a single division--they'll be the only single unified champ in all of boxing. When they fight Crawford will be 30, Indongo will be 34--hard to argue that either isn't at the top of their game.

fighters from the former Soviet countries tend to turn pro late after a long amateur career; they tend to stay in shape in between fights, they are generally not big weight cutters. Al of those factors contribute to increased longevity.

there hasn't been a thread about GGG which doesn't mention his decline due to age with no evidence other than his last two fights, which is no evidence whatever.

what's more, power is the last to go (this is an old boxing aphorism, and it's true, whatever skills George Foreman lost over time, power wasn't one of them, everyone knew that)

and finally, people forget about factors which offset age-related decline, like experience.

a fighter's net ability doesn't necessarily decline over time--that's ridiculous. It could go up. Exactly when age-related decline begins, depends on the person, but the range is large, anywhere from 28 - 37 is my guess. And even once age related decline begins this does not mean a net decline in the boxer's ability--boxing IQ can increase with age if the fighter is active, motivated, has a good trainer, and the quality of his opponents is increasing. In other words, you won't see a net decline in tha boxer's ability until age-related decline overtakes increased skill. I put GGG in this group; he's only been with Abel Sanchez nine years, he's highly motivated, and his opposition, with a few exceptions has increased over time.

that said, i'd still pick Loma (29) over Kevin Willis (44), assuming the latter can make 130 :)

Great post an excellent point on not being a big weight cutter increasing longevity.

Too bad GGG is 57 years old and done. He has been in decline since he was 49. LOL Usyk will also turn 50 by the end of the CW tourny.

Atlas also said Crawford is more physically gifted than Loma whcih is complete horse ****! Crawford is just a weight bully who coasts in fights, robbing the fans of action.

Who was that cuck Stephen A. Smitch used to work with who said GGG was slow and had poor footwork? I bet he would say Loma is sloppy and wild. I can see his pasty face but just cannot come up with his name.

    Oh yeah; Skip Bayless..................

Crawford at 140 hits harder, is physically stronger than Loma at 130 (P4P) - Loma is more fast twitch, though. Crawford can both box and fight, he's the full package.
GGG has unbelievable footwork but IS pretty slow and his defence is weak when pushed back like most EE fighters including Loma (although when pushed back, his defence isn't as weak as GGG's). GGG used to be more elusive but then joined Abel.

Crawford will be considered PFP when and IF he moves up and beats GGG at 160. It's bum city at 140. He's doing absolutely nothing but hanging out in a weak ass division enjoying the benefits of cutting to pick on smaller fighters.

    Am I doing it right?

I will say Lomo's showboating in the corner after the KD was lame. Horribly lame. Marriaga had talked no trash before the fight and fought like a clean fighter void of any showboating himself... It's the kind of thing that is "cool" and "risky" if you do it AFTER you've just been hurt. Not when you just hurt the other guy, are naturally bigger, are a 50 to 1 favorite to win, and dominating the fight to that point. That's just some corny action.

    i agree (and i'm a Loma fan)

    when:

    you are a 20:1 favorite

you are one weight class above your opponent

your opponent hasn't trashed talked; and

    you are clearly winning
then the kind of antics we saw from Loma last weekend amounts to humiliation (whether that's the intent or not) and i would rather this not be part of boxing.

maybe there's a segment of casual fans that enjoy this sort of thing, and maybe they represent a large share of the market, if so then perhaps Loma's behaviour amounts to intelligent self-promotion....still i think it's bad. A fighter can build a big fan base without the sort of behaviour

Lomachenko showed his skills and just played with his opponent, Lomachenko tried to get Salido to fight but Salido knows better, refused $750,000 to fight him on ESPN..............
