How much does Bias and favoritism play into your judgment regarding posts that feature your favorite fighters?? Hope I made myself clear here.
A bit. Probably because I have watched the guys I like many times and are familiar with their strengths.
You have no better place to look than Marciano fans. Clearly the most biased and simple minded boxing fans out there. But you can look at Mike Tyson fans, Floyd Maywather fans, Manny Pac fans. Wladimir Klistchko and Tyson Fury fans are all equally biased.
I try not to let bias affect me, but I am sure it does at times. There are posters on here where it is blatantly obvious they cannot be objective when posting about their favorites. You can tell by the language, hint of emotion, etc. The recent thread regarding Lennox Lewis by Mr. Corbyn is a classic example.
Well I like to think I am ok with a difference of opinion so long as it is a knowledgeable personal opinion rather than a promotion of a popular cliche. With me it's More about that rather than biases or favouritism. On Fantasy fight threads I see the first few comments come in where posters will say "he gets beat because" , which is ok, then you begin to get posters coming in on the back of that with a certainty that really isn't based on anything other than trying to anoy those of a different opinion. Perhaps that's where the bias towards that situation kicks in and can be construed as a favouritism in defence of the minority view.
Bias and favoritism means that our evaluations are prone to be inconsistent. By inconsistent I mean holding one fighter to the rules while ignoring blatant violations by another. Examples 1. Approving of referee interferences which favor the favored fighter 2. Acceptance or justifying of favored fighter blatant fouls, such as elbowing, hitting low, and head-butting. 3. Approval of judges misjudging in favor fighter's favor 4. Feigning blindness to other boxer's effectiveness. 5. Explaining away victories against the favored as flukes or gifts. I personally strive not to reason in that way.
