We all know the score with young, beating foreman, giving Ali and Norton difficult fight s. So if we throw Young in with a prime rock, could it be potentially marciano s toughest fight?
Jimmy, a very tricky one on his best day, fighting the machine that never stops coming forward. In a style s make fight s situation, could Young have all the answers to take rocky s undefeated record?
PS. In hardest fight, I mean in terms of a Walcott style fight against marciano, where rock would struggle to be as effective. I've edited the title question slightly.

Judging off the two Lowry fights one could make that assumption,I personally wouldn't though.

Young although one of my favorite fighters back in the 70's did not have the movement required to stay with prime Marciano. I could see him in full safety first mode lasting the distance but losing by decision.

I think Young would have utterly frustrated Marciano...would have used every trick in the book to remain upright and would have made it to the bell, but would have ended up losing a clear decision as Rocky would have had him on the defensive pretty much throughout the fight...especially in the last 5 rounds. No one punch ko finish for the Rock (or even a kd), as Jimmy, unlike JJW, was THE negative defensive master par excellence,..and also had a much better chin and recuperative abilities than Walcott.
High volume output swarmers like Marciano and Frazier would have been Jimmy Young's bane, so to speak.....forcing him on the defensive too much to mount up any effective, fight winning aggression IMO.
A Marciano-Young fight would have featured a supreme example of pure defensive survivalist genius on the the part of Young however that doesn't win fights unfortunately.

Marciano's work rate would win this, but Young would be there at the finish,he's a damn sight better than Lastarza!

You're absolutely on target with this post Perry...Young would have survived 15 rounds for sure.

If 180 pound Roland LaStarza could beat Marciano and 177 pound Ted Lowry could beat Marciano then Jimmy Young who beat Foreman, Ali, Shavers ( in their second bout) Lyle 2 times would beat the living crap out of 180 pound Rocky Marciano.

Young has one of the best resumes in the divisions history, he was a tough SOB and would last the distance but would be out worked.
