Bingo! Watch how Young manipulated, tied up and held Foreman's arms in their bout...it was just as effective, subtle and frustrating to Foreman as was Young's other elusive defensive work. I have no doubt that he would have been just as frustrating to the much smaller and less powerful Marciano..but the difference would have been Marciano's greater stamina, and sense of purpose. That's why Young would have been relegated to defense far too much with Marciano to ever win on points.

Walcott was brilliant if a little slower against Marciano, that version of Walcott would have beaten the version of Ali that beat Young, Norton would have struggled with that Walcott also, maybe Ken`s size and strength would count but basically Walcott had more savvy than young a poor comparison despite some of Walcott`s weakness`s.

Yeah, and that decision loss to Clay Hodges in his 3rd bout...yeah, that really tells the story too, doesn't it?

    I would say probably not.

Young could be a nightmare for anybody, but I think that some of the technicians that Marciano fought were more hurtful punchers, some were a bit more nuanced, some were more willing to mix it up to get the job done, and some were all three.

There should be a way forward for Marciano here.

Marciano said that his toughest fight ever had been that first fight against Walcott.

I agree with the difference s between Walcott and young. I have Walcott rated well higher than Jimmy, but young did have that tendency to be able to mess the top heavys around on his best day. I don't think he'd beat rock but if you pit the best version of young against him, rocks going to struggle imo. Young proved that he could withstand foreman s power, so he could probably do same against marciano. Whenever he could do that for 15 rounds against a smaller, awkward machine like rock.. Well it's going to be the hardest fight of his life. But he would give rock a hard troublesome bout because that s what he was capable of. Does he beat him imo? No. But it's not a easy blow out for our rocky.

No, he said it was with Charles .

"When asked about his toughest opponent, Marciano quickly replied, “LaStarza was tough, but Ezzard Charles was the toughest man I ever fought. I learned what pain was all about when I fought him.”

Marciano further elaborated on his thoughts and feelings on what it was like to fight Charles.

“You know I was knocked on the seat of my pants a few times. Being knocked down doesn’t’ really hurt that much. Stunned, y’know. Your head is buzzing and it sounds like the ocean is roaring in your ears. You can ache, too.

“But those fights with Charles---they hurt. Hurt so damned bad! I was screaming inside. The blood didn’t bother me none, except I gotta do something or else they might stop the fight. I knew I’d have to have an eye hanging out before they took my title away on a cut, so I did what I had to do to save the title. But I’ll always remember how much it hurt. Hell, I never want to feel hurt that much again.”

In their first fight, Marciano and Charles went to the brink and beyond in an ebb and flow war. Charles never allowed Marciano to bull him into the ropes, and used his vast experience, trademark style, and tremendous toughness to make a fight of it even though the “Cincinnati Cobra” was over a half decade past his prime. Charles lost to Marciano that night on the scorecards, but Ezzard holds the distinction of being the only man to go the distance with Marciano during his title reign. "

I doubt Young could last the 15 rounds with Marciano.

Young wasn't much bigger than the rock 6ft 195pnds? But was very tricky at his best the fight would go the distance with Rockys pace and stamina forced a victory .Young when he wasn't in the mood would get stopped.
