Klitschko, Pulev, Ortiz, Wilder - did Wlad ever go on an equally strong run of defences?

I'm not the biggest fan of AJ. Whilst he looks great in doing what he's done, one the eye test I think he'd come up short against the greats of past eras which so many of his fans claim he'd wreck.

Anyway... to compare him to Wlad - the divisions last HOF champ, if he gets through Hearn's planned schedule of Pulev, Ortiz and Wilder - would that trump any 4 consecutive defences Wlad made after becoming a belt holder? Or did Wlad go on a streak that I missed?

Well since I rate Wlad himself head and shoulders above any of those three I'd say no.

Povetkin - Pianeta - Wach is probably better than Pulev-Ortiz-Wilder especially considering Pulev hasn't really looked very impressive lately.

    Chambers-Peter-Haye wasn't bad either.

If we go by Ring Magazine, Wlad really never had an equally strong run of defences.

    Wladimir's best runs :

    2009-2011

    1. Ruslan Chagaev : No. 3
    2. Eddie Chambers : No. 3
    3. Samuel Peter : unranked
    4. David Haye : No. 2

    2013-2015

    1. Alexander Povetkin : No. 2
    2. Kubrat Pulev : No. 1
    3. Alex Leapai : unranked
    4. Bryant Jennings : No. 5

    Joshua's run would be :

    1. Wladimir Klitschko : No. 1
    2. Kubrat Pulev : No. 4
    3. Luis Ortiz : No. 5
    4. Deontay Wilder : No. 2

So if all those fights would really happen and Joshua would win, he would have a better run than Klitschko ever had mainly because Wladimir had a warm-up fight between his second and third top 5 opponent in both of his best runs and Joshua would have beaten 4 top 5 opponents consecutively.

I think Hearn would want a rather easy defence for AJ too, once he takes care of Pulev and Ortiz before taking on Wilder/Parker.

aj hasnt done it yet so why ask this question.

so far hes done some unlnown guy called breazeale something, plus a 41 year old man. Add tto that he won the title from anohoper who sat down and smiled on the job. one of the worst runs ever. even the klitschkos didnt defend against 40somethings.

Joshua could clear out the entire top 10 within 5 years of turning pro.

Already he' beaten top 10 Whyte and Breazelle. And #1 rated Wlad.

He's about to knock off #4 and #5 rated Pulev and Ortiz.

That will be 3 top 5er's , one of then the #1 HW in the world in his first 4 years.

Compare that to Wlad who took TEN years before he even faced a top 5 rated HW  .

Even worse the two top 10 guys he fought during his first TEN years as a pro were #9 Jefferson and #9 Chris Byrd :confundio::cbiggrin::lupie:

They're all inferior to Povetkin. Fury is the only other guy who can beat him.

Those would both make for interesting contests.

I'd have Pulev to beat Wach and Wilder to beat Pianeta with Ortiz vs Povetkin hard to call.

I'd also go for Haye to beat Pulev, Chamber to lose to Ortiz and Peter Wilder a total toss up so that's prob a more interesting run to compare.

But, man. Ir he were to beat Pulev and Ortiz back and go on to snatch the remaining titles from Wilder and Parker, that'd be some legit HOF stuff.

It would be an impressive run but there's also a decent possibly that he'll get knocked out in one of those fights. It's best to take a wait and see approach with these things.

That run would beat any 4-fight run of Wlad's, but Joshua hasn't done it yet, nor is there a guarantee that he wins all of the fights either.
