George Foreman. 25 y.o., undisputed undefeated world HW champion, 40-0 (37 KOs).
Destroyed 2 men who went 1-1 with Ali at that time in less than 4 rounds combined.

Mike Tyson. 23 y.o., undisputed undefeated world HW champion, 37-0 (33 KOs). Won 10 title fights in a row.

Which one do you prefer, and why?

a legend vs a legend is always greater. Douglas was a good win, but not like Ali vs. Foreman.

I would go Ali v foreman. Foreman coming back all those years later proved what a great fighter he actually was. For Ali to KO the man in his prime is a great achievement. Where as unfortunately both Tyson and Douglas were afterwards never as good again.

Foreman destroyed legends. Tyson destroyed ok fighters. Also the fact that Ali was out of his prime when he beat Foreman makes it all the more impressive.

Foreman because he was in better shape and well prepared. Not so for Tyson in Tokyo. Tyson that lost in Tokyo was more comparable to the Foreman of the Jimmy Young fight.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Norton was better than all of the guys Tyson beat. He had the style to give Ali trouble, sure, but I can see Tucker or Tubbs being troublesome opponents for Ali as well. Not saying they beat him, but they could pull of a Norton like performance. Both past their best went the distance in competitive fights with Bowe and Lewis resectively, something I don't think Norton could do.

And Fraizer had seen better days.

Douglas vs Tyson is the answer for me. One the odds of expecting Douglas to win were astronomical and has now become his career defining fight. Foreman is a great win and certainly stamps or cements Ali's status and legacy but in reality he is ATG with or without this fight.

As good as Ali-Foreman was, it's Douglas-Tyson for me. An unbelievably great performance by Buster.

Foreman was in better nick than Tyson and Douglas was in better nick than Ali , so its Ali's win for me.

But Douglas produced a better boxing performance , even if he was a whisker away from being counted out.

I never thought Foreman was that much better than Tyson.. I would go Tyson over him in a way. Foreman had a better style to last.

I don't see how a lucky win like Barkley vs. Hearns or Douglas over Tyson is better than two guys who are legends beating one another. 2 legends is a better fight.

I, of course, agree with Cobra. Ali had everything working for him in that fight. The odds on Mike-Buster were ridiculous! 30-1?? I think Ali-Foreman was something like 3-1. Didn't see the Tokyo s c r a p live. Thought it would simply be another beat-down for Mike. When we saw it a week later my late friend said: "Wouldn't you have LOVED to have see this one Live?"

Ali beating Foreman was the better win since Foreman was way better than Tyson. But Douglas performance was better, Ali did nothing but lay against the ropes and prayed for a miracle. Douglas went out there, took the bull by the horn and won without getting lucky.
