David Price vs. Prime JDS, Overeem, Hunt, Kharitonov, Filipovic in a boxing match

CroCop beat Miller under K1 rules but I think everyone would agree that under boxing rules, Miller would beat him up. CroCop has a much shorter reach than Price and no right hand. I don't personally think he'd be good enough going forward, or slick enough on the backfoot to trouble Price. Skelton may have been a former K1 fighter but he was a professional boxer for over 10 years.

Maybe Hunt could have been as good as Holomono or Leapai or Topou etc if he had pursued a career in boxing. The fact is though that he didn't pursue a career in boxing so he never got to that level. His last boxing match was only a few months before he fought Jerome Le Banner, and a year before he fought Ray Sefo who himself had just been KOd in boxing by someone who never got to the level in boxing that David Price did. Considering he (flukily) won the K1 GP in 2001, 1998 and 2000 for boxing fights isn't all that far from his prime. But anyway, if you take him as a 0-1-1 boxer, take him from 2001 or whenever after that, and put him in with David Price, I just think he's too basic and easy to hit to not go in the underdog. An older Hunt in his UFC stint is a bit less easy to hit but I still see him getting worked.

Kharitonov got easier to hit when he got heavy and old for sure. That come forward slugger type style he adopted was probably a more dangerous one stylistically for Price. Earlier he was lightfooted and in and out and harder to hit and threw mostly straight punches. But I agree and think either one could beat Price.

All those guys could have potential to be decent boxers (except Overeem) if they'd been developed in boxing, but I think taking them straight from their different sports and putting them in a boxing ring with a much more experienced boxer puts them at a big disadvantage. Kharitonov was a legitimately good boxer though as an amateur, with a good professinal style so I think he'd have the best shot to overcome that and stop Price.

 

Not sure, as I rather know their names more than their boxing skills. What I know though, Badri Hari would destroy Price, bully him and knock him out very, very early.

 

So you're talking about prime versions of these mma veterans?

 

I do think you're underestimating him relative to guys who would be novices in professional boxing, but obviously you do that because of the really bad way in which he loses. So I'd be surprised but not completely shocked if he lost. He's chinny and stiff and not all that mentally tough, etcetc, and he could well be mentally broken after the last KO loss for all I know, and all those guys have power. If he got beat by that journeyman, I'd be surprised but not shocked too, if that makes sense.

 

Well, prime Price would be when he totally destroyed decent domestic people like Sexton, Harrison and McDermott. He was ducked by Fury for a reason.

 

I think Kharitonov would give him a run for his money. Maybe a ready and in shape Mirko. That's about it.

 

Amir Kahn would probably beat price at this point.

This. Price knocks all these guys out. Price has both a terrible chin and terrible stamina, but if it's strictly boxing none of these guys have the skill to avoid Price knocking them out before he gasses.

I've seen them all fight. I've seen JDS, Overeem, Hunt, and Cro Cop fight live. These guys are all excellent fighters, but to limit them strictly to boxing is taking away their most dangerous weapons.

Overeem's knees are deadly, but if you limit him strictly to boxing he would get killed.

Hunt can punch and is tough as nails and I love watching his fights, but he isn't going to walk through Price's punches.

JDS has a great 1-2, but for the most part his boxing is really sloppy and he has no head movement. This got him a knockout victory over Cain, but standing in front of Price without moving your head won't end well.

Kharitonov's boxing is ok for MMA, but against pro boxers he would be too predictable. Barnett of all people was able to figure Kharitonov out and time him several times. Taking away Kharitonov's clench game and low kicks and putting him in a boxing ring with Price would get him knocked out.

Cro Cop is a beast, but if you take his kicks, knees, and elbows out of the equation he isn't much of a threat against a good boxer.
