It was, according to the account, on the bad eye but post-surgery.

No, as I understand it, because it required a contact lens for him to see properly.
The surgery got rid of the cataract but didn't leave him with perfect vision. The chance for good vision lay in wearing the contact lens.

Holmes's story is similar. Apparently he had retina surgery in 1992 and post-surgery he had to wear a contact lens for a while because his eye was out of shape. According to Holmes, a Holyfield punch in the 3rd round got rid of the contact lens.

Crazy stories but in professional boxing this doesn't really surprise me, sadly.

Maybe, but he may have been concerned about how letting a boxer under his guidance fight while visually impaired would reflect on him.

then next time dont write both eyes.

if you write something then you only have yourself to blame for writing it.

Possibly but he has a lot of reputation to protect in other ways too. If he came out as an out and out liar on something serious like this he'd take a hit. Certainly for me he would.

Having one blurry eye and one clear eye is probably fine for boxing. You could see detail with the good eye, but the blurry eye would be fine for peripheral vision and sensing movement. A contact lens doesn't fix blindness obv but would help after old school cataract surgery. The technology is better now so the contact isn't needed (see Margarito).

Look, you don't repeatedly slip the jab of the fastest Heavy in history in the F .O.T.C being blind in one eye. It sounds good, but unless he's Daredevil (shout out to comic book fans) it simply wasn't true.
