i don't recall seeing this posted before. I see this going the distance. Only three fighters stopped Floyd and Norton wouldn't become the fourth. Norton does have the size advantage as Floyd was really a cruiserweight, but I see Patterson out working Ken en route to a decision. Thoughts?
Problem with Norton.....he never was a truly "vicious" fighter...except for the "faded Quarry" fight...when Norton heard some rumors that might not have been true re: Quarry's attitudes toward blacks. Norton can beat Patterson if Norton uses his size and power jab to just pound Patterson up...and keep pounding. Otherwise. Patterson outpoints Norton on a close decision.
I think there is a chance that Patterson would knock Norton out, later on. He had decent power and Norton didn't have the best chin.
agree with slugger, good chance Patterson knocks Norton out. Floyd had everything, defence, quickness, akward, everything that would work against Ken
Terrible shame that Patterson is mainly remembered for the Liston disasters. He was fantastic. I don't see how Ken Norton overcomes the Patterson who beat George Chuvalo.
I see Patterson winning, and I think there is a decent chance both guys could be down a few times. If someone gets stopped, it will probably be Norton.
For some reason Norton gave boxers fits, Ali never really beat him and Norton might have won his fight with Larry Holmes in a war. If Patterson couldn't back up Norton a little Norton wins a decison
Norton at 6-3, 80 inch reach, and 215 lbs just too big for Cruiserweight grade Patterson. Norton by decision.
Reinhardt, who said Patterson was a boxer? He possessed slick skills and often (too often IMO) bided his time but it was in his nature to invite exchanges. He certainly may go down, maybe a couple of times, but IMO he's going to: One-land something that puts Ken on his heels and unload with those blistering combos or: Two-land that numbing left hook which could put Ken in some trouble. A shout out for Ken? He could be able to corner Patterson and lay some serious body shot damage on him. Bottom line? If Floyd shows up passive (which he often did) he may be in trouble. If Floyd shows up battle ready Kenny's gonna take some shots. My take? Floyd UD. Liston miles ahead of Norton in power; Ingo's right miles ahead of Norton in power. Chuvalo's body attack equal to Ken's. My $0.02
I think this is a likely scenario ,if you didn't have the top end power to back Kenny up he got his momentum and trundled forward.Floyd could win, but I lean towards Norton.
