Come on people, let's be serious now.
He's probably not much more than 5'6 and 160 pounds here in this pic. That's absolutely huge for a 13 year old kid and I'm sure stories about his phenomenal strength are true. But you can see he's no heavyweight there, he's nowhere near 190 pounds.

Tyson fans can confirm Tyson was 350lb there, he was a natural marvel. Cus and his team had to actually starve Tyson to get people to get in the ring with him. What a special specimen he was, just imagine how big and strong he would have been on steroids........ zzzzzzz.........

In all seriousness you can see from these pics Tyson was not a freak of nature like many on here want you to believe.

He was unusually strong/stocky for a kid that age but the idea that he was basically fully grown at 12 or 13 is obviously false, based on the pictures.
He may have hit puberty early but you can see he did a lot of growing beyond that picture. And I think he's 13 or 14 there.

I don't think he looks unusually big, schools are littered with kids much bigger than that at around that age. He's far from a genetic freak IMO.

Tyson isn't a huge guy though.
Most big kids are skinny at 14 though. He was stocky. And strong.
He was definitely naturally better suited for strength than someone like Floyd Patterson, and that was what Cus was after.

He was well developed but not overly so, the way his fanatics go on about it you'd think he looked like Arnie at that age. Steroids almost certainly played a big part in his development in his teens.

    Maybe, maybe not.
I'd be a bit disappointed if Cus D'Amato DIDN'T make sure Tyson got the right drugs etc.
I know it's kind of unethical considering Tyson's age but Cus was an obsessed extreme type of guy, and steroids weren't even banned in boxing at that time, so it would be a huge oversight if he didn't give the kid a few drugs that could assist growth and increase aggression.

It's not as if he'd be trying to keep Tyson small.

If I had to guess I'd say probably Tyson had a few shots now and then.
I think everyone had a few shots back then, it wasn't even an issue.

Probably nothing compared to what bodybuilders were taking though, even at that time.

With steroids you don't really take "a few shots now and then". To get real benefits from steroids the user has to properly cycle them and consistently use them otherwise it is a waste of time. If a guy is 200 lbs then starts taking steroids and gets to 230 lbs then he will just shrink back down to 200 lbs after he stops using them.

If Tyson was pumped full of steroids as a teen in order to get big then he would have to continuously take them if he wasn't naturally that weight.

I do wonder though if the steroid abuse somehow impaired his ability to get a man's voice, we've seen how steroids effect a woman's voice
Absolute rubbish, my cousin abused steroids for years and when he came off them he lost a lot of size but he was still much bigger than he was before he got on them.

Tyson is much smaller than he was when he was fighting, alarm bells are ringing right there......

Surely one of Teddy's epic exploits, along with shoving George Foreman.

    Anecdotal evidence...useless...

Do you know the exact drugs used, steroid cycles, diet, hormone levels, etc. of your cousin? Do you have the exact weight, body fat percentage, and bmi of your cousin prior to using steroids and what it was after he came off and "lost a lot of size"?

If you didn't notice, he got fat as hell and then lost a lot of weight. He lost fat and muscle. The onus isn't on Tyson to live his life with the same amount of muscle mass and ripped physique that he had in his prime just to please his detractors. Who do you know that naturally had the same amount of muscle mass or more in their 50s that they did in their 20s when they were ripped?

Btw Mike Tyson is still pretty muscular for a guy in his 50s.
