If push comes to shove and age is being used as determining factor and a measuring stick, Wilfred Benitez won his first world title against Antonio Cervantes -- himself an under-the-radar great -- at age 17 at 140lbs. Floyd, at age 17, was winning his second National Golden Gloves title in a thin-on-the-ground weight class of 112lbs. The Floydites can't have it both ways.
Loma lost in his eight pro fight. Don't tell me WSB wasn't pro. No headgear and he was paid. He probably made more money in the WSB than Floyd made in his first 10 fights.
Ha! I thought you could handle a little playful banter sounds like you're getting sensitive. Listen I just don't find the comparison worthwhile at this stage, the data being compared for the two fighters is extremely unbalanced therefore creating a weak algorithm to use when conducting the study....just my opinion man. Btw what's with the "doe" what does that even mean? Why do you do that?
Yes you can make an argument that Floyd lost that fight what hint are looking for exactly? Do you see a double standard? Is this another anti American attempt....man you can be pathetic when you get in this mode. To think the lot of you separatist that haunt this site would actually be good boxing pundits if you weren't so fixated on preaching your subtle hate. Find a new hobby it will help grow as a human.
A sensible response. Why would anyone compare the first ten bouts of a traditional pro apprenticeship with the first ten pro bouts of a fighter who underwent a much longer period of amateur grooming and entered the pro ranks already fit for world contention (close to his physical prime and with the engine pretty much built already)? Loma's handlers didn't just throw him into the world title pool on a whim - he'd been able to focus primarily on boxing in his am years, training twice a day, which had him very well conditioned for a guy just turning over. Ergo, they (and the fighter himself) had a certain amount of confidence in his ability to hang.
Floyd was young and brought along in the pros very carefully, like most US fighters. His first 25 opponents looked like they found them at the bus station. Loma got his education in the amateurs. Completely different situation.
Loma all day! That being said, if Floyd had stayed in the AM's for 300 more fights and entered the pro ranks in his physical prime, I say he was just as capable of doing what Loma is doing now. Loma is one great fighter. after last night and the show he put on, I can't doubt the man and give him a better than good chance against anyone in and around his division! Special fighter!
Bit of a stupid question given that Loma had almost 400 am fights and a lot of WSB experience which is basically like a pro fight Of course he was gonna be fast tracked
This is what you call a meaningless stat that doesn’t include context. Kinda like when ESPN lists bs like Kobe being the youngest player to reach 10000 points but it cares not to list Kobe entered the NBA when he was in high school or the fact that he takes the most field goal attempts and has the record for most missed field goals lmao See where I’m going with this. Just because Kobe ended up reaching 10000 points faster than Jordan does not make him better than Jordan. Floyd is self promoted. He didn’t have a hype machine behind him like Loma does and Loma will still never reach Floyd’s level with every pundit sucking him off or with any of your support here on this forum. This is a wasteful argument for so many reasons and on so many levels. Floyd at 29 years of age>Loma at 29 years of age period. Argue that. Btw, let me just get to the point and cold hard truth of any subject matter. Floyd>Lomachenko Let me know when Loma surpasses him. I won’t hold my breath.
This is like the most ******ed comparison I've ever heard. Loma became a 2x gold medal olympic champion before going pro and fought hundreds of times in the amateurs (as we all know). Floyd went pro when he was like 19. There's absolutely no sense in comparing their first 10 fights. Obviously Loma is going to go at a faster pace. ******ed.
Agreed. It’s hilarious how triggered certain individuals have gotten with this thread I also think it’s funny how the same individuals who in the past have been quick to say “AMATUERS DON’T MEAN **** DOE! THEY AIN’T THE PROS!!” are just as quick to say “B.. Bu.. But Loma had 400 fights as an amateur and was older when he turned pro doe!” Sooo if the amateurs are a whole different ballgame and “Don’t mean ****” then WTF does his 400 fights (Only lost one and avenged twice) have anything to do with his superior start as a pro compared to Floyd?? Lomachenko > Floyd in their first 4 years as pros. Don’t even bring up the amateurs. I said I wasn’t in the first post! No comparison there! And since Loma’s pro story is still being written... we can compare their first 11 fights now and development as a pro.
