Hagler V Foster.. A brutal ending for marvin?

6 years later. after 11 years of title fights.. not the same fighter. Hearns defeated and undefeated guy with 10 title defenses.

 

based on Hearns having experience moving up and rocking Hagler in their fiht early on. Hagler at 175 would get knocked out by Hearns. That is easy to see.

 

I know those fighters well. Hearns rocked Hagler with his second punch landed and broke his hand soon after. I think a rematch at 160 would have been tough for Marvin and Marvin knew it. He didn't want the rematch. Hearns would have had the pace slowed. and landed his jab and busted up Marvin and stopped him on cuts in about round 5 or 6... I think Hearns would have won the rematch, and Hagler did not want it. Remember this, Hagler put his all out for the Hearns fight mentally and physically. Then he was inactive for one year injury and other issues. He was never the same fighter.

 

Not ending well for Marvin to say the least.

 

Hagler probably would go the same way as Tiger.

 

No, its not, and that is a ridiculous statement. There is absolutely no proof of that whatsoever. I suppose Hill had a better chin than Hagler as well?

 

This is what i remember most about that fight. When Tommy tried to box Hagler, stick, move, jab etc, he simply couldnt keep him off of him. And then he couldnt withstand the pressure and got stopped. That is actually what happened.

 

An overrated guy that had he fought in the Spinx, Saad, Qawi, Mustafa Muhammad era would have suffered many brutal defeats.

 

Ya that blow hurt Hagler so much that he continued his assault on Tommy in that round and had Tommy reeling at the end.

 

To say that Hearns who was totally outclassed vs Hagler would magically beat Hagler in a rematch is a very long stretch of the imagination. Hearns could not take the punch Hagler brought to the table. Landing one blow that hurt Hagler does not equate to beating him in a rematch. Aside from the opening minute the bout was a one sided affair. Hagler always beat Hearns as there is no evidence to the contrary.

Since Hagler never fought at 175 you must conclude the natural fighter at the weight would win. Foster by stoppage in 8 rounds in a one sided contest that Bob controls with his jab.

Tough one here. Marvin's chin was marvelous.....but at middleweight. Dick Tiger had never been stopped until he ran into Foster. Foster may very well have stopped Hagler.

 

Marvin gets starched just like Dlck.

 

Tiger went even longer, at a more advanced age (37) than Hagler (retired at 33,..or 35 if you prefer) before he was decked by Emile Griffith, and that was 2 years before he was ko'ed by Foster.

 

Agreed, obviously you have watched the Hagler Hearns fight closely, after about 90 seconds Hearns started to move and tried to stay away from Marvin and then took a beating the rest of the way. Anyone who thinks Hearns wanted a rematch needs to watch him being picked up like a little girl and deposited back into his corner after being ko'ed.
