Why do people insist on calling Marciano a heavyweight and keep comparing him to modern heavyweights

He was a 180 pounds and only fought guys that size. So if you are going to consider him a modern size heavyweight wouldn't even guy over 175 be considered a heavyweight then?

I don't see people making threads about Sergey Kovalev for example beating Mike Tyson. For the morons who say but Kovalev was stopped by light punching Andre Ward. Marciano was almonst stopped by light punching 177 pound Ted Lowry.

I don't see people making threads about Bob Foster knocking out George Foreman or Wladimir Klitschko. Bob Foster was 6'3 and if the heavyweights from that era weighed 180 pounds he would of been a heavyweight instead of a light heavyweight. Bob Foster was a monster puncher fighter guys his own size. But what happened when he faced even small heavyweights like Joe Frazier? His punching power couldn't even put a dent in Joe Frazier's chin. Why would the smaller more crude Marciano be able to do better?

Then you keep seeing his bozo fans tell you but he went 49-0 so that has to mean somethinig. So many fighters would go 100-0 if they faced the level fo competition Marciano faced. A washed up Joe Louis who wasn't a heavyweight by today's standards. A washed up Ezzard Charles who was a light heavyweight/small cruiserweight by today's standards. A washed up Jersey Joe Walcott a cruiserweight by today's standards and a washed Archie Moore who was a natural super middleweight.

I have yet to see a Marciano fan bring up the fact that most people think Roland LaStarza a 180 pound fighter beat Marciano in their first fight and got robbed. I never seen any Marciano fan bring up the fact that 177 pound club fighter Ted Lowry beat Marciano in their first fight and got robbed. Not only did he beat him Lowry would of knocked out Marciano when ever he wanted too and had Marciano out on his feet various time. A club fighter like Lowry almost put Marciano away.

Yet Marciano could handle Tyson, Foreman, Lennows Lewis, Riddick Bowe, Razor Ruddock, David Tua, Ike Ibeabuchi, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, Anthony Joshua and others punching power? This is why Marciano are considered the least intelligent boxing fans.

Errg.. Because Marciano did hold a heavyweight title between 1952-1956.
That's why he is a heavyweight and a Champ.
If you think he can't beat modern heavyweight than so be it.

Lets not drop Marciano in a time machine to 2017...

Lets drop Wladimir and Joshua in a time machine to 1950. See how they look physically. See how their technique is.

Well technically he was a HW because he fought in the HW division and won the HW title. Nowadays he wouldn't fight there, at least not successfully, but that shouldn't diminish his achievements in his own time.

I think they call him a HW because he was the HW champion.

Who's to say today he wouldn't bulk up to 220?

Like others said he held the HW title. Although he was fighting as a HW you could argue he was the best CW of all time.

As Bob Fitzsimmons said, "the bigger they are the harder they fall."

Some of these nincompoops think that size is everything. It isn't

Sounds like the OP is butthurt about something o_O Maybe it's about a tiny (milky white comics) heavyweight ruling with an iron fist.

Well said. Rocky M was good for boxing, but he fought older accomplished fighters.

He was the Mickey Mantle of boxing embodying the happy content mid-1950s. I personally think Ezzard Charles beat him in their first fight.
