I would favor Louis. Quarry was a true fighter and warrior. He would stand and trade with Louis at some point. Jerry could box and had some speed and was a good combination fighter, he would land and possibly shake Louis, but Louis was more accurate. Louis was also a great finisher, so Quarry would find himself in trouble at some point and not survive. Jerry gets stopped in 8
Quarry would get his face punched in. His face would be turned into hamburger meat. 6 - 9 rounds sounds about right, then the referee steps in and saves Jerry. A prime Louis would be a less harrowing experience, he'd probably spark Quarry with 3 or 4 rounds, less painful.
This content is protected This content is protected I see nothing in his record nor in his fighting ability that would indicate his beating a prime Joe Lewis although he did beat Earnie Shavers by TKO. This content is protected Beat Ron Lyle by UD. --------------------------------------------------- Losses were to: Ken Norton by TKO Jimmy Elis by MD Joe Frazier twice by TKO George Chuvalo by KO Muhammed Ali twice by TKO Ron Canmer by UD Eddie Machen by UD ----------------------------------- BTW Drew With Floyd Patterson.
Quarry would get busted up by the jab and outboxed. Unlike most of Louis' comeback opponents, Quarry would sell out eventually for a desperate knockout and get destroyed like Savold.
Charles beat that Louis and The Rock k.o. Joe. If Quarry jumps Joe early, he might TKO him. But more than likely Quarry fights cautiously, and gets stopped on cuts in 7 rds.
Quarry had a big heart and gave Frazier a rough time in their first fight which was Ring Magazine Fight of the Year 1965. Quarry would try what he did with Frazier against Louis and swarm early. A prime Louis would brutally dismantle this Quarry but a 50's Louis is a different story. Louis would still have enough in the tank but there would be some rocky moments for Louis but he would survive the early onslaught and Louis would rally to stop a bloodied Quarry on cuts in 8 rounds.
That's true. That would make him 36 years old wherefore he was 37 when he fought Marciano in 1951. One important thing people tend to forget about Louis is that prior to Marciano and after his loss to Ezzard Charles in September of 1950, Louis had rattled off 8 straight wins. Half of those wins had been by KO and TKO. All those eight wins were from 1950--1951. BTW Just two years prior to 1950 he had KOD Joe Walcott with his traditional lethal combo barrage.
From1950 onwards Louis stopped just 3 men. Soft punching Freddie Beshore who was stopped 7 times halted on cuts. Andy Walker who was beginning a run of 12 straight losses before he retired and who was halted 10 times. Thirty six years old Lee Savold who was stopped 10 times. I like Jerry here!
Savold was 36 and he wasn't much when he was 26! All this talk of Quarry being stopped on cuts ,how many times did that happen? 36 years old Louis wans the same guy who held the title all those years.I wouldn't be surprised to see Jerry stop Joe.
