Pinklon Thomas - Masterful Left Hand

I agree.
Even at his best he seemed to slow down to a sluggish crawl and coast a bit. And his defense wasn't great either, and that really showed when he faded.

 

In his short prime a great fighter. Yes he could be a little sluggish in some fight s, but I enjoyed watching him. Remember when he was just coming in to the title picture and talk of a Holmes fight. A young Thomas v a still great but ageing Holmes? I give Thomas a great shot. But back then if you ran Holmes close you were punished by the judges. So it would probably ended up in a controversial draw or split decision loss.

 

His peak was short but he really fought a great fight against Witherspoon. That was a grade A win. His last good performance as against Weaver in '85. He looked horrible against Berbick and even worse in tuneup fights before Tyson. Then, he was totally shot when he lost to Holyfield, Bowe and Morrison.

Larry Holmes wanted no part of him in 84-85.

 

It was as heavy a jab that I've seen in the heavyweight division but I've always thought it strange how low he kept his left hand before and after he threw it. Seemed wide open for a right hand counter but that was just his style I guess.

 

Was a very good fighter but sometimes didn't seem in good shape .very surprised he lost to berbick who I didn't and don't rate very highly just a big strong bloke who was in better shape than pinky that night.He should of boxed his ears off.

 

I liked Pinklon Thomas .. He beat a pretty decent Witherspoon that night .. I just feel he didn't have much besides a good jab .. he also blew it against Trevor Berbick who is underrated but a man great fighters should beat .. his time in his "prime" was pretty short .. that being said he kicked a heroine habit and that is to his credit ..
