Ya I know, if they are better then them in boxing I am sure some boxers can learn to be better then them in kicking and wrestling also. For some strange reason people think that this is impossible. Cant understand that one,

robert byrd........are we to expect mayweather to counter and fall in and hold and never to be warned for holding in excess? Are we to expect that mcgregor will be penalized if everytime mayweather goes to hold he throws mayweather off?

I wonder if these idiots hyping this travesty are paid shills, collecting fees from the promoters of this farce to pump it up in the face of low buy rates, and obvious indifference of knowledgeable fight fans?

It's possible for a boxer to transition to MMA, however, they have to learn new techniques, like takedown defense, submission defense, etc. You take a regular Joe Schmo boxer and put him in a cage without any training, he's going to get taken down and he'll be tapping out within 20 seconds. You take a regular Joe Schmo MMA fighter and put him in a boxing ring, and anything can happen.

Certain fighters are better fits for transitioning over than others. Conor is a puncher, so naturally he's a good candidate to make the transition to boxing. A prime Royce Gracie on the other hand, who was never a good puncher, would do very poorly in a boxing match.

Certain boxers may be able make the transition to MMA, particularly boxers with good athleticism who can sprawl and can quickly absorb how to prevent takedowns. That said, in general it's easier for MMA fighters to make the transition to boxing because they don't have to worry about learning new techniques like a boxer does if he moves to MMA.

I'm not doubting your ability to train boxers to compete in MMA. (i'm guessing you're an MMA trainer?) If you find the right guy, who's in his prime, athletically gifted and motivated to learn all the aspects of MMA, then anything's possible.

Lets put it this way, it's easier for Conor McGregor, who is known as a puncher in MMA, as opposed to a grappler, to transition to boxing than it is for many top boxers to transition to MMA. Most boxers would simply get taken down and submitted quickly by a seasoned top level MMA fighter. Whereas MMA "punchers" could get in there and take on some of the best in boxing, and while most of them would probably lose, it wouldn't be a guarantee. There's always the chance that a puncher can win a boxing match, whereas for a boxer to win an MMA fight he has to learn how to prevent a takedown and has to learn how to defend submissions on the ground, which is completely foreign to boxers.

I agree with some parts, but ultimately the best fighters in MMA will coincidentally also be the best boxers.

I don't agree with you saying MMA punchers could make it in boxing unless they have athleticism and speed.

I'd say overall, to be successful at the top levels of boxing, it requires elite athleticism.

Being a puncher isn't enough. McGregor will do well because he has elite athleticism. And it's not just even athleticism, which is kind of hard to define, it's his footwork and his balance, and his rhythm. If you don't have rhythm, it will be very difficult to make it in boxing.

In MMA, if you have rhythm and you can punch, and you can wrestle enough, you can be like McGregor and dominate.

Meltdown because we aren't dumb enough to believe you're beloved McGregor beats a top 100 Welterweight/Super Welterweight in boxing. Go figure. You're the one that brought the comparison up. Floyd has idiots like you hyping this farce of a pay per view up to be severely let down on the 26th.
