Why do people insist on calling Marciano a heavyweight and keep comparing him to modern heavyweights?

Because he would probably beat most of the current upper tier heavyweights.

Probably the biggest fighter around in the Marciano era was Nino Valdez, but Nino kept getting beat by smaller fighters at inopportune times. (by Archie Moore for one). Marciano probably would have fought Valdez. Liston & Williams were just coming on the scene, and Patterson won the 1952 Olympics at Middleweight, and was slowly moving up the ranks. Marciano had very "heavy hands" per an honest Ali via their Computer Fight sparring, and as Joe Frazier once said about his own opponents: "I can only fight the guys of my Era....not some guys of another champion's era".

Size means so much more than you know and than you'll admit. Size means everything with 2 fighters with the same talent levels.

    Yes, size matters drastically

Ezzard Charles, probably the greatest LtHeavy of all time & a hvywt champion; Archie Moore, great Ltheavy Champ who fought at heavy too; Joe Louis, older but still a good fighter; and an underrated JJ Walcott. Marciano fought the best that were available as challengers.

Marciano fought all the best out there, he was a heavyweight at that time.....................Joe Louis was 6 feet 1 inches tall, considered pretty tall for back then......................remember, Mike Tyson fought short, was short, but that was a part of his strategy................

Legendary heavyweight, one of the best KO ratios in history, retired Louis in BRUTAL fashion, created one of the most iconic photos in boxing history blasting Walcotts face, 49-0.

    DEAL WITH IT!! :devil-flip:

Marciano would have been 215 easy with today's diets, supplements and training routines.

Right, if Marciano could weigh 215 pounds he would of then. Other fighters before him weighed over 200 pounds. Marciano weighed 180 pounds because that was his natural weight.

Good to see you have a fully functioning brain. You know why these Marciano fans like him? The same reason Floyd Mayweather fans like him. It has nothing to do with their skills. It is because Marciano fans look like him and Mayweather fans look like him.

You noticed how Marciano fans will say size isn't important. Only skil is right? Which is funny since their isn't a skill class but their are weight classes. But those same people will say Foreman a 6'3 230 pound guy would be too small to fight against modern size heavyweights. Yet Foreman was a modern sized heavyweight, fought in the modern era, and therefore fought modern sized heavyweights. Then those same people will say the 5'10 180 pound Rocky Marciano could beat modern sized heayweights.

They will also say well if Marciano was alive today he would weigh 215. If Marciano could naturally weight that amount he would of. Conor McGregor for example could start weighed 240 pounds. It wouldn't help him beat heavyweights because that isn't his natural weight.

Did your ***** azz mom smoke crack before she had you? A heavyweight in the 1950s could still weigh 180 pounds like Marciano. To be a heavyweight today you have to 200 plus pounds.

Lol you mean the Jack Dempsey who had plaster in this gloves? Also ****** Jess Willard was a bum. You can alway find a exception to every rule .Jess was just a big slow bum. If you actually think Jess was as skilled as modern big men then maybe you should quit watching boxing.
