What have been some instances where a fighter isn't able to take a punch as well as he used to after a fight, either by sustained punishment or being knocked out cold? I think Whyte's punch resistance faded after being KO'd by Joshua.
I remember an Emmanuel Steward interview where he said, in his personal experience, being knocked out back to back was one of the most devastating things that could happen to a boxer and afterwards they were never able to take a punch the same way. Always stuck in my mind.
Chris Arreola comes to my mind. Used to block all the punches with his head without blinking, but getting knocked down and out on a regular basis in his last fights...
Arreola has never been hard to hit or hurt, he was simply fresher several years ago. Travis Walker had him down in round 2 back when Arreola was on the way up as a prospect. Eric Molina hurt him badly years after that as well.
I sure couldn't take a shot at 70 like I could when I was 69. So I am right here with the thread starter. RJJ is a good pick, David Price, Audely Harrison. Now some would argue those last two could never ever take a shot but I don't believe that's true, many levels in boxing.
Guerrero's went down hill big time after the Thurman fight, which speaks volumes about how featherfisted Garcia is at WW.
Walker had freakish power and dropped Vitali in sparring... Molina wobbled him a bit without any consequenses. Funny thing is Arreola seemed to have better punch resistance when he entered the ring weighing above 250 pounds...
To be fair Travis Walker was a really talented and hard hitting guy who could just never really put it together to succeed at the top level, he also had some chin issues and mental weakness to combat as well. He was his own eras Maurice Harris.
Cory Sanders had him in trouble several times. No dishonor since Sanders was no slouch: This content is protected
