Exactly. I can only think that there are ulterior motives for asserting otherwise. Whether people are Floyd fans who want this mismatch to seem more than it is, Floyd haters hoping against all reality that he gets beat, or uniformed UFC fanboys who DKSAB - something's driving it!

No rational analysis - based on an understanding of the complexities of boxing, and the YEARS needed to master it in order to attain world class skills of a Mayweather - could lead to any other outcome than a victory for Floyd.

Even if Floyd has only ONE THIRD of his prime ability left at age 40 - and I think he has more - he will beat this novice easily. The only question is this fight is KO or decision.

Im a boxing fanatic of course, but is boxing dead if Floyd loses to McGregor, whether it be a decision or a knockout? What will be the state of boxing if this happens?

No. A lot of casual fans will drift away though the real boxing fans who see things past the ''surface level'' will know what's up and the circumstances around it if he does lose.

Whats your reasoning behind this thought?

I think most of the focus would be on McGregor and not boxing nor MMA.
And McGregor would likely return to boxing for one more mega fight.

No, the sport will always move on. A 40 year old retired boxer losing to an mma fighter in some freakshow won't change that.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's lot of boxing fans that wouldn't mind if Mayweather loses.

I think money got angry a couple of years ago when he saw rhonda rousey on the cover of ring magazine, and he went on this tirade about mma fighters not having a place in boxing. Since that time I think he has been searching for a name big enough to schedule a match, and prove that boxing is better, just my opinion.

No. This " Exhibition " has nothing to do with boxing, although it does bring to light the corruption of the sanctioning bodies and gives strength to the argument that boxing needs an international governing body like other legitimate sports, it's about making money off of ill informed fans and casuals. Mayweathers PPV numbers took a steep nose dive after Pacquaio, he's done in boxing. This fight will be bought by Floyds diehard fans, McGregor fans and many casuals. It will be big and there will be many disappointed viewers, not fans anymore, at the end of the bout feeling ripped off once again by Floyd. Floyd will do his usual safety first game plan, pot shot his way to a win, carrying McGregor to make the fight look competitive. McGregor doesn't even have a punchers chance with the lighter gloves! I have read online, for what that's worth, that even with the 8 ounce gloves, McGregor still isn't allowed to use " punchers " gloves. All the talk about McGregor going MMA on Floyd is just hype, it's not gonna happen. These 2 are business partners.

I'm no fan of MW who I think is a women beating, money grabbing, arrogant ****. But he is the best boxer of his generation and I hope he puts on a boxing masterclass which shows casuals that it was daft to think McGregor ever had a chance. I think he will.

The more I think about it, the more i hate the term "father time is undefeated".

On the surface, it's clearly true. Eventually you get too old and you can't perform at an elite level anymore.

My problem with it lies with the fact that "father time" casts such a massive umbrella. Every person has a different "father time", so really, father time has been defeated. Many, many times.

I don't have a great wealth of boxing knowledge, but just from the brief research I've done, every fighter has a different father time. And I know for a fact that people were saying things like "father time is undefeated" for many of these fighters well before their actual time, and for some, it came much quicker than expected. Like Robert Guerrero at 32(?)

Basketball is a sport that I have much more knowledge in, so I'll use an example from that sport. Kobe Bryant played until he was 37. A 20 year career, and of course, father time eventually caught up with him. He was a SHELL of his former self for the last 120 games of his career. Just decimated by injuries and age. The thing is, there were people saying "father time is undefeated" in regards to Kobe YEARS before in caught up with him.

So I have to ask the question, is father time really undefeated? What if 40 isn't Floyd's father time? What is 40 isn't close to Floyd's father time? Are people just allowed to say "father time is undefeated" even after it's been defeated countless times by countless athletes?

Does Floyd have anywhere close to the wear and tear that a normal 40 year old boxer would have? Did Floyd look older and slower vs Berto? He's certainly not spry, but I don't think he looked close to being overtaken by the illustrious and undefeated Father Time.

Someone's 0 has got to go. And it's gonna be father times!

.....Is what I would end this post with if I were a cornball.

Boxing died with the end of Tyson's prime.
It lost its notoriety as a mainstream sport, the best athletes were leaving for other sports and they paid well, too. The best boxing isn't on regularly enough or on free TV - and it's not the public's duty to keep as interested as they were when now we have competing sports are winning the attention.

There does come an occasional time when there's a true star who will be celebrated and drawn attention too - there are more avenues by which these very biggest fights can profit today but beyond that, nothing.

Boxing is dead. If Conor beats Floyd, the world will officially make UFC the main combat sport, boxing would be for geeky purists who like a glorified game of fencing. Boxing training-for-MMA is different to Boxing anyway.

We just saw Wlad look arguably better than he ever has before at 41, Athletes who take care of their body's preserve them selves far better than those who don't. Hopkins is another great example. Genetics play a role also, I have seen clips of floyd sr showing insane hand speed in his 60's. Floyd certainly isn't your average 40 year old fighter.
