My thoughts on why Wilder's opposition is vastly underrated and why he should infact, be respected

Wilder's resume is vastly underappreciated and disrespected on this forum, in particular, certain members seem to revel in trashing him. This is unfair and I will explain why. Wilder is 38-0 and undefeated. If he is such a bum then why Joshua won't fight him?

Is the answer really because he has no resume or fanbase? Really. Do you know why that excuse is so stupid? Because when you look at every division...champs always fight guys with so called "no fan base". Thurman and Porter fought. Who was the draw and who had the bigger fanbase? Marrhysse Peterson? Whose fanbase was bigger? Wilder won his title just like Joshua did. By NOT beating the champion.

That's the most stupid ****en excuse ever. I can't get over that one. One dumbass even asked who are the best 3 fighters that Wilder has fought. Go to Wilders Boxrec and pick any 3 you want after the Harrison fight. And with Joshua you can pick anyone after the Whyte fight. Joshua's big 3 wins are ****ting all over Wilders? Really??? Lmao.

The 19 and 38 "did it in quicker time" excuse falls on deaf ears as well because of the idiocy in thought. Loma has how many fights? That's squashed. Easy work.

Wilder is a joke, everybody knows it. He's fought so many tomato cans he should open up a soup factory.

True, the quality of opposition and how a boxer handled it should be a relevant factor in the objective evaluation of his skill. Unfortunately, such a crucial factor is very often totally ignored when the need to denigrate is the primary agenda. In short, in such cases the real fighter is totally ignored and straw man target is created and irrationally attacked instead.

Wilder had five voluntary title defenses in a row, it's a world record! He will go down in the wino beater hall of fame!

I watched a few of Wilder's fights again.

Contrasting Wilder / Duhaupas and Povetkin / Duhaupas was actually quite interesting.

I'll give Wilder credit for three things: he is entertaining, he has size and huuuuge power.

    It's indisputable.

Wilder's problem is really that he has a leaky defence and essentially poor punching technique. He achieves his power despite his technique, not because of it. With Duhaupas he was sort of slapping his punches in from the side in a manner that makes little sense to me. He doesn't really get body twist or his shoulder behind the shots. As a result Duhaupas was able to make a good fight of it and while he was never in danger of winning, he busted Wilder up some and landed a lot of leather. Wilder essentially wore him down.

Povetkin against Duhaupas was quite instructive. Sasha as a physical fighter is much less impressive than Wilder. But as a boxer, he is streets ahead. Duhaupas could hardly land a meaningful punch on him, whereas I could see Povetkin calculating the angles and waiting for Duhaupas to throw so that he could walk him onto his shots. His accuracy was much better than Wilder's (Duhaupas actually looked like a slickster at some points of the Wilder fight) and Povetkin finished him off with a carefully calculated series of punches that achieved through timing and placement what Wilder couldn't through brute force.

No doubt in my mind that Sasha would take DW to school, and that Wilder would pretty much only have the proverbial puncher's chance.

Good post, though it's worth mentioning that Duhaupas took the Povektin fight on extremely late notice. That would obviously play a part in how well he performed that night.

The only way Wilder becomes undisputed is if Trump and NK get it on in a nuclear war and Wilder survives by staying in that bunker he built for himself when any legit top ten call his name. His first defence when coming out of the bunker in 10 years will no doubt be against a dustbin cockroach, and not one of the dangerous glowing ones which fight back.

    Keep telling yourself that.

Wilder has the power and reach to compete with any HW in history. We wont know the truth till the other belt holders fight him. And IF he does win you will look incredibly stupid, it is not beyond the realm of possibility.

-Joshuas defense is not that great, lacks head movement and hasnt gone the distance. Suspect chin and very litle pro experience. Best wins are a 40 year old klitschko and domestic level journeyman dilliant whyte. Won a paper belt from manufactured fighter (glass jawed martin).

-parker: if he beats hughie fury that will be one of his best wins (mediocre resume). Shorter than wilder with less power, less reach, and weighs less. anything could happen.

-ortiz: in his late 30's, flabby, good amateur experience but southpaws are known for being suckers for right hands, wilders best punch. Ortiz best wins are jennings who lacks power and was coming off a loss and the bum ass old ass journeyman tony thompson who lost 3/5 previous fights.

-browne: inconsistent drug cheat, 37 years old, best win is controversial. Lacks defense and speed.

-pulev: likely gets iced by joshua and becomes a non factor.

Not exactly the scariest line up of contenders and beltholders resume wise. All are very talented, skilled, big, and strong, but if you think Wilder doesnt at least have a punchers chance with his wicked power and height/reach advantage, you need to watch more boxing.
