Above average for his size... He would still hit extremely hard for a smaller HW, so would Marciano. Those guys would have been a real problem for a lot of guys in the recent past and present.

But you passed it on as if it was fact and suggested that the 90s heavies get the same "benefit".

It is a fact he said it. It is a fact that the result of that bout was disputed.

Janitor was holding up the Fulton result as some sort of benchmark to Dempsey's power. I have often said it was his best and most impressive result.

However, it is a result that was disputed. This must be acknowledged.

So, to rephrase, do the 90's heavies get the benefit of their best result being disputed?

You should have just said that in the first place. Wouldn't have caused much confusion even though most wouldn't regard disputed results as a benefit.

And if their body weight is less than another man's then they can't put as much into each punch.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

    So what.

If there was a range of 1-10 for power enabled by size, there would be a range of 1-100 for power enabled by technique.

You are so off base. Very few fighters truely know how to put body weight behind punches. Dempsey excelled in this regard and his punches exhibited enormous power. You are inferring that larger fighters were just as skilled in terms of hard punching technique and this is a complete fallacy.

Lots of fighters know how to put their weight behind punches. It's not exactly a forgotten skill. And Dempsey was hardly a master at it anyway, as anyone can see watching him flail away at Willard with windup haymakers thrown mostly with the arms from a static upright stance.

I'd rather get in the ring with one of todays contenders than Dempsey if its all the same to you. One punch a minute pace, I might just survive. I'd have a snowball in hells of surviving a round with JD.

This is some noob level stuff.
Ray Arcel said Dempsey was the hardest puncher he'd ever seen.
Jack Sharkey, whom he lifted off the canvas with a left hook, said that a tail end career Jack punched harder than a prime Louis.

As for your description of the gif, also poor.
Foreman also punched from an upright positon, his form is bad?
He also often punched from below the waist, dragging his fists by his side when an opponent was hurt.

Explain to me how to crush 6'6 250lb SHWs by "throwing from the arms."

Dempsey is one of the greatest punchers to ever live.

Foreman is known for throwing arm punches so yes, his form is not considered one of his best traits. He was also a huge mofo relative to his opponents at the time and known for being incredibly strong. Desmpey doesn't get the same leeway.

My description of the gif is exactly what happens in it. Dempsey winds back his arm, clocking Willard as he gets to his feet then begins wailing away at him from a front on wide legged stance with more windup haymakers when he's pinned him against the ropes. That's shocking punching form, and in no way conducive to efficient weight transference.

Explain to me which modern HWs throw only one punch a minute.
