I hate posting flame threads and maybe I am off base here. But I really think Loma walks through Rigo. I think Rigo is an excellent boxer but I have seen him floored a few times. Loma to me may have slightly less boxing skill but overall is the better fighter. I don't see him getting hurt. Like I said, maybe I'm way off base. I don't follow either extremely closely, but from what I have seen I am surprised to see people picking Rigo.
Loma's style is not to "walk through" people though. He just doesnt impose his physicality that way.... that's why im not too concerned about the weight. His height will benefit him, but i wouldnt be surprised to see Rigo with an equal reach. Rigo is just cat quick. Utterly cat quick like i've never seen before. I envision a 6-6 or 7-5 type of fight (favoring Loma) but the knockdown (or two?) will blow the scoring open for Loma. Could be a stoppage as well.
Rigo actually has the longer reach, and Loma can't move around the lead hand (as he likes to do) of a southpaw as he can of a orthodox fighter. So I'd say that Rigo has a stylistically advantage here. Apart from the reach he gives up quite a bit of size, though, and the question is if he can get Loma to respect his power and take Loma's own shots.
The advantage Loma has is size. He looked to be Walters' height at least. That makes him no less than 5'7, while Rigs is 5'3 at most. He will also have about 10 pounds on Rigs in the ring. It may be too much, or it may not. Either way you have to credit Rigs for trying to he great. Anybody who watched Marriaga use head movement to make Loma miss, and also noticed Marriaga touch Lomachenko up a bit when he let his hands go, knows that Rigs will have success in the fight. Loma's face would have been a swollen mess had Marriaga not quit half way through. We already know that Rigs is El dedor de la cabaza. Lomachenko may look like the elephant man after the fight is over.
I hope peopel dont **** on this fight but its obvious they will. This is such a good fight or pure boxing fans. I cant wait to see it and i honestly dont wo who i will be routing for, maybe Rigo as Loma can come again. Im hoping 126 is agreed at 130 Loma has a huge advantage but its still and intriguing clash of styles.
YES, and emphatically so! Rigondeglass has a very fragile mandible that Lomachenko is going to shatter. My guess is that this will happen earlier than expected, with 3 rounds.
I think the size is gonna be a factor, I believe Rigo is the only person in those weight classes that has the ability to "outbox" Loma but Rigo is hopping from SBW to SFW is a big task. I'd say easy work for Rigo against nearly any one else even with the jump, but he's taking on likely the second most skilled person in boxing (behind himself). I drool at the prospect of this fight however
I need to see them together on fight night to be able to make that judgement. The size difference is not actually as bad as one may think because: a. Lomachenko is 138lbs on fight night, Rigondeaux is 128lbs on fight night b. Their 'lengths' are the same - Loma is 2.5 inches taller, Rigo has 3 inches longer reach to cancel that out. Loma is literally the same size as he was as a FW, he just wont be weight cutting to make 126.
Rigondeaux is more skilled, he's a master of defense. Loma will not be able to fight with his hands down like he did before, and he will take a lot of counter punches. Don't forget that rigondeaux is really powerful on his left hand which hurts hard. It will be the real first time that Loma will had a tough opponent in front of him. Howerver, two main facts are making me perplex : the weight , the capacity of Rigo to support Loma's punches. Really sad that this fight has not happened few years ago, Rigo will be 37 years old for the fight. But it doesn't matter, i'm sure that he will be in a good shape. I'm a big fan of Rigo, and i like lomachenko too. But Rigo is my winner. Look forward to see this big opposition!
Depends at which weight and which Rigo. I think Rigo is older than he says (Cubans like to do that when entering professional sports here). Loma probably destroys this version of Rigo even at a weight fair to Rigo. 126 is asking a lot of Rigo, 130 is ludicrous (said with my worst Tyson impression). Prime Rigo vs Prime Loma that would be a tough call. Many trainers that have seen Rigo in their gym have said they've seen nothing like him, ask Freddie Roach. But, I've seen lesser fighters tag Rigo and he finds a way to come back. He couldn't afford to give an advantage like that to Loma. Like Floyd, you're not going to outbox Loma and he'll just increase his point lead to a UD if that were to happen. Rigo becomes overconfident and makes mistakes. Loma doesn't. His loss to Salido was because of rough housing not being outboxed. I say Loma in a CLOSE one.
Rigo's up against it here. On top of the rest of the variables, I think Loma's got the styles advantage...if he can't hit hard enough to expose some as-of-yet unseen chin issue on Loma, it's going to be a long night for him.
