McGuigan is a shady lil bugger. Frampton was funding the whole family operation, feeding them. Made F all for himself. Now he will have to take massive fights to make up the deficit financially.
Because outside Carl's fights they tend to lose money, so if he's the one bringing profit into the equation he's paying their wages.
https://companycheck.co.uk/company/NI619080/CYCLONE-PROMOTIONS-LIMITED/financials Financials show Cyclone is worth minus over £500,000, big drop of in financials since Framoton fought Quigg.
I was half expecting this to be some sort of ruse from which Frampton and the McGuigans would emerge unscathed, having let the naysayers and gossip hounds run wild. I don't know what's gone on but that crowd always struck me as a superstitious bunch to whom loyalty and unity were the pillars of their strength. There was a certain amount of romanticism in them standing on their own and sticking it to Hearn, first with Quigg and then Davies. At 30 it's not as though Frampton's battle worn with only a couple of fights left in him and in need of cashing out. It also worries me that he's made a change in trainer at a point where the most important fights of his career could be just around the corner. The LSC rematch never struck me as a failure in coaching, they were both razor thin decisions that could've gone either way on both occassions. It was a simple case of evenly matched fighters trading outcomes. I hope Frampton lands on his feet, but it seems like a terrible point in his career to be uprooting a successful formula. Maybe there's more to the situation than just money. If not, he'd better make sure he gets a handsome price for his scalp from Hearn or whoever is cashing him out.
it's a good move, like you said at 30 the most important fights may be just round the corner as well as his chance to get his big pay days before he retires, Cyclone promotions are losing money as a company, Frampton wasn't making as much as he was paying all of their wages etc, Fighting on Channel 5 meant there was never as much money as fighting in the US or on Sky, Forget loyalty, frampton needs to make some decent money before his time is up and he wont do that fighting on Cyclone shows. And as for the change in trainer, Shane is an overrated trainer anyway. He was living of the win over Santa Cruz but they had no plan B in the rematch, He never gelled well with Haye, Groves got a good win in a tear up vs Chudinov but loses to Eubank, Smith or Degale. Taylor beating Davies was a good win but that was more down to the skills of Josh Taylor. Overall its a good move to leave the mcguigans at this point before its too late and Frampton is left with little money.
If all this shady money dealing is true... its a knock to Mcguigan really. All this nonsense about because he is an ex fighter he understands the game better and make it all about the fighter and making sure they get treated right is utter bull. In fairness to Hearn... one thing you never hear is anyone accusing him or matchroom of messing with their money. Which seems pretty rare in boxing both sides of the Atlantic.
On the one hand I dont put a lot of stock in trainers once a fighter reaches a certain skill and experience level, coming up with the correct game plan and potential contingencies isn't rocket science. On the other hand, I do put a lot of stock in the comfort and familiarity that a successful team breeds and rocking that boat later in a career rarely works out. As far as Shane goes, I wouldn't say he's overrated, the amount of criticism that's been levelled at him after the Bellew and LSC rematch has more than swayed that scale. I don't think Frampton got where he is on sheer natural ability and I don't think the improvement seen in Groves is merely the inevitable recovery from a bad run of form. I'm not saying I rate Shane as the second coming of Cus, but when it comes to trainers, assuming the fighter is already a skilled individual I think it's 25% theory, 25% chemistry, 25% environment and 25% luck. Even then if their fighters are in 50/50 fights things can and will go wrong. I'd almost excuse him entirely for the Haye situation. As an aging phenom, Haye's already cooked. I just dont think it was the right fit. Shane never looked comfortable with the pretend playboy routine. But as you say, hopefully Frampton makes a packet in whichever direction he takes, without denting what's come before.
it's clearly not a successful team, coming off a loss, financial issues and there has obviously been some fallout behind closed doors, maybe frampton blamed Shane for the defeat or maybe he is sick of not getting paid what he deserves from barry or maybe both.
