Aside from that, they have both done far more as pros than Loma has and as much as I admire Bud he has alot of catching up to do with Ward. We're not talking amateur p4p here. We talk pro p4p.

That's some weird logic by a boxing noob brain. What about guys like Hopkins, Jones, Toney, Pacquiao etc. who had losses/a loss and were still the best fighters in the sport?

I think Inoue needs a big name at this stage to get into Top 5 to replace someone like Loma/Crawford. He's old enough and experienced enough now.

Agreed. I think he was the 2nd biggest loser when Roman lost (controversial as it was)- that fight was going to be made, and Inoue was going to win it IMO. Thats the marquee win that would've gotten him more widespread attention.

All isnt lost, but that was a set back. He should be able to line up some big fights stemming from the Superfly card coming up.

I really don't see how he's lacking in big names on his resume compared to Lomachenko.

Taking a step back, does Lomachenko even lack big names compared to Bud? I'm as big a fan of Bud as anyone on this site, but beating big names isn't his claim to greatness. He takes solid fighters and makes them look like amateurs.

Everybody forgot about Gonzales. I'd have him above Loma still.

Yeah Gonzalez is a clear number 2 behind Ward for me, and those two are in their own tier above the rest.

Eh lineal in two divisions (albeit weak ones) is still better than what Lomachenko did at 126 and 130. Postol was fresh off one of the best wins at 140 recently and was completely dismantled by Crawford. Meanwhile Lomachenko's biggest names weren't exactly setting the world on fire going into their bouts with him, with Walters being kept completely inactive and Russell Jr being mocked for his TBD level of competition.

Postol routinely gets sold short from that fight, and that's Bud's best win.

I'm not convinced that he's that much better than GRJ, who absolutely destroyed the power punching Jhonny Gonzalez in short order after the Lomachenko fight. Gary's inactivity has been his downfall, but he's still a major problem for anyone at 126 and has arguably the best handspeed in boxing. Likewise, Postol is a tough, skilled customer and will give issues to the rest of 140.

As far as context of the win & GRJ's record going in to it, adding it makes Loma look better, not worse. Loma was 1-1 going in to the Russell fight with one 12 round bout under his belt. A loss there drops him to 1-2 and literally sets him back years. Bud had extensive championship experience facing Postol (Vic being his 7th title fight at his second weight class).

Walters "complete inactivity" is a bit of a myth- he had one less fight than Loma over that time period. It's a better win than Gamboa, and was a better performance (though people still read too much into Gamboa's offensive success vs Bud since Crawford deliberately took a few rounds to figure him out).

If one wanted to argue that Bud's resume was better (Indongo was a nice win & great performance, as was dominating Burns on the road), that's no biggie....but they're the same ballpark. Dominating fighters who don't have A names on their ledger...yet.

LOL, none of the ones with 11 losses.
