You know, in our boxing echo chamber a lot of us are trying to convince ourselves that boxing's fine otherwise and life will go on. But if you're aware of how so much of the world is looking at this event it's obvious: boxing will be DEVASTATED and DELEGITMISED if Conor McGregor beats Floyd Mayweather. This isn't just two slightly different styles of the same sport. Boxing is a distinct discipline, art, and sport. And if someone from another sport can roll in and beat the greatest boxer out there it can't be brushed away. Boxing will look like ****. It will be the laughing stock of the world, be looked at as the subpar variation of mma, and won't have the chance of gaining those under 40 fans that boxing's lost to mma in the US and elsewhere. Mayweather doesn't just need to win, he needs to dominate. He has to knock this guy out, and the longer past about six it goes the more derisive whispers about boxing there still will be. Because boxing's credibility as a sport is at stake here... I'll sure be watching. If you're not embracing Floyd's skill and greatness as the par excellance representation of boxing and rooting for him to win every second and win by impressive knockout you're just exposing yourself as anti-boxing. McGregor winning won't be an exciting upset, it will be horrifying for anyone in the world who cares about boxing.

Heck, in addition to risking the most money I've bet on a match in a long time on Mayweather, with boxing at stake I'll put my fandom at stake too: if McGregor beats Mayweather I will 1) NEVER bet again; 2) NEVER post here again; and 3) NEVER watch boxing again. I won't be able and won't want to support boxing if Mayweather somehow can't beat this McGregor UFC guy.

    Who's with me? :boxing1

If (when) Mayweather finds that McGregor can't land solid on him or impose any strength or power on him he WILL be comfortable staying inside and will commit to walking McGregor down and going on the attack. Floyd has and will take the 'risk' of staying close when he knows he can comfortably handle doing so.

If Mayweather loses - It is a PR disaster for boxing of epic proportions from the top right through to grass roots.

It will be the death of boxing. It would be like cutting off the head off a cockroach. It will live on for a few days but it will eventually die. No kid will want to take up boxing if Mayweather gets smashed up. No one will want to watch boxing again apart from a few hardcore fans. The talent pool will dry up, and the sport will eventually become as irrelevant as Karate or Kick Boxing.

Even if McGregor beat Floyd but lost his next 10 fights to boxers it wouldn't matter, because everyone would remember him beating Mayweather; TBE.

There is actually no scenario where this can be good for boxing.

If Mayweather wins easily; well that's what was supposed to happen.

If the fight is competitive; it's bad for boxing

If the fight is bad; it's bad for boxing

If McGregor wins and KOs another 10 boxers; it's a disaster, because he'll always be known as the MMA guy who took out boxing's best.

I don't think the reality of the situation has quite sunk in for most people on this board.

Think Ima gonna take out Serge's fart box and take a couple good strong whiffs. Contemplate life. Then give Lady Girl and Kobeyashi a call.
